Bees Knees

Hello Everyone!

Hi'yal!
Shell and Graham from the Bees Knees in Poole. Golly, what a fantastic evening we are having here. Ive just been for a walk round our estate (all 150 foot of it!) and its a real joy to see all the plants and seedlings sprouting.
Ive just been round and watered the garden too and the smell coming off the still warm ground, coupled with the water is heavenly.
Just wanted to say hello as we joined up to this site tonight. We've been members and participants on (am I allowed to say these words? River Cottage! I know well, some one has too don't they?) Anyway some what disillusioned by the BIG HFW we thought we'd have a look at whats happening on downsizer net and see whats happening.

We downsized about a year and a half ago!

Both Graham and I were members of the Great Employed club, up until about a year and a half ago. I used to work for the local newspaper and became really disillusioned with high unachievable targets that did not relate to the ever increasing area I was expected to cover. Quiet Frankly I became newspaper phobic. Long story, dont want to go there.
Graham on the other hand had a fantastic job which he loved very much and unfortunately had to retire early (he's only just 50, but done tell him I told you so.) Anyway feeling like we were not ready for the scrap heap of life and wanting to do something for ourselves for a change, and get out of the rat race, we sold my house and reinvested the money into Grahams house and had a major rebuild to turn it into a guest house. We've been running just over a year and are really enjoying it. Why didnt we do this sooner?
We now have no stress. dont sit in traffic jams and don't answer to managers who, though deem themselves sane are totally anal about what life is really all about.

In doing what we did, we have found time to become ourselves again and spend time at home and with each other. Today we went to Lulworth and picked some Sea Beet, yesterday, we went cockling at Sandbanks and tonight we had Sea Beet Gratin with muscles and cockles topped with a crispy crumb coating made with homemade breadcrumbs, cheddar and our home grown wild garlic.
If I dont say so myself, it was absolutely lovely and really hit the spot! (any one want the recipie?)
We are both looking forward to "Avin a Chat and getting to know you all"
Anyway thats all for now guys. We hope to become valued contributers to this site in future. TTFN (tata for now)
