Hello from a dark but solar-light-lit garden in Stourbridge!

Hello Everyone.

I'm a newbie Surprised

I live in Stourbridge in the West Midlands and have been recycling and composting for over 25 years as well as having made my own clothes at times, made jam, wine, fairly good cook etc. I say this not to blow my own trumpet but being of a certain age (over 50), I come from a different era where we were taught to do these things and it's so nice to know that they are coming back into vogue.

I feel I have something really constructive to pass on to my two boys, who, let's face it, will need more than a good job to survive in their lifetime.

Glad to be here and looking forward to some good chats Laughing

Yvonne.

Diolch

Prynhawn da, Mochyn - diolch.

No, I don't really speak Welsh - I just have a phrase book as we were going to buy a business in Beddgelert a few years ago, but unfortunately it never came to fruition.

I LOVE Wales, but do prefer the ruggedness of Snowdonia over other areas.

Glad to be here.

Yvonne.

Glad to see my post has 'brought' some of you together - I aim to please. Very Happy

I used to have a friend who lived in Aberdeen - he moved to his own pad in Greece last year. Multi-millionaire now. We wrote a novel each during our internet chats - nice guy. Went up to see him once, and Aberdeen was very grey but very pretty.

Not as pretty as Beddgelert in Snowdonia though. SORRY - I keep coming back to that don't I.

Anyway, great to be here. I'm off to have a mooch and see what I pick up, contribute or just have a good old chat about. happy3

Hiya!

I lived in Stourbridge for several years before moving to Hagley, where I lived for 17 years. I spent a lot of time in Stourbridge - used to shop there all the time, as I refused to go to Merry Hell....which bit do you live in?
Both my younger children were born in Wordsley hospital, one in the then new maternity unit which has since been closed down Sad ..The eldest was born in the QE in brum, so I have one brummie and two yam yams!

Welcome to Downsizer - you will find a wealth of knowledge on here, and a lot of lovely ( if potty ) people!

I ran away to the south coast in 2003...but my mum still finishes phone conversations with "tara a bit"... Very Happy

Croeso, Dw'n byw yn Ceredigion.. see its proper welsh by me (for some reason said with a valley's accent Embarassed), we don't have a english and welsh names for the county.. did prefer Dyfed, but never mind.

Hope you like downsizers, there are plenty of oldies on here Razz .. seems like now-a-days if you do anything that isnt modern, or upto date your old.

Hi, Lettucewoman

Love the avatar BTW Very Happy

Both my boys were born in Wordsley, Dan's 16 and Andrew's 15. We live in Wollaston and like you, avoid Merry Hell as we call it as if it's the plague.

Stourbridge has declined greatly, mainly charity shops and places like Wilkinsons. Confine my shop to Waitrose and Artisan Organic (it's in Victoria Passage) and does a great range of organic produce that you can put in brown paper bags hello1

I love all of Wales really but Gwynned is my favourite.

I would love to have some land and an eco house somewhere out of the way (well, not too far out of the way). I keep buying my lottery ticket and hoping.

Yeah - you have to learn new stuff to keep the little grey cells active. I have to keep up with my kids anyway. Very Happy

Have a great day - sun is shining here and I have my first baby runner bean of the season! Way to go. Yes, I know - it's very late but then I started them very late this year. Laughing

Wollaston is where I lived....Harmon Road to be exact! Does Leonard road still do the amazing christmas lights display?? (not very downsizery but they were raising in excess of 20,000 pounds for charitywhen I used to go). Used to be a lovely take away in Wollaston - the Red Fort.... Very Happy

I must have a look at the organic shop in victoria passage the next time Im up - my daughter has just moved back to Stourport so Ill prolly be up soon.... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy (had my belly button pierced at Emily's dangly bits about 6 years ago.... Cool )
YvonneR

OMIGOD, I'm just about to shop and walk past Emily's Dangly Bits.

Next time you're coming down, pm me and you can call in for a cuppa.

I love this forum, it's so full of lovely people.

And no, Leonard Road quit the lights last year all over a mobile coffee seller. They said other people were profitting from it but it was such a nice atmosphere when you walked up and you could get a drink and something to eat. A lot of people used to travel and it was nice for them to grab a bite to eat. Petty if you ask me in comparison to the money they raised for the Air Ambulance and latterly the Hospital.

Perhaps it will resurface one day.

Can't think of the Red Fort though, I'll ask hubby.

What a small world this is. Very Happy

Yvonne.
