Hello from Axholme

Hi.
I'm Mal and I live in the Isle of Axholme in North Lincs. I've recently started chooks again after a long lay off and have Jersey Giants, Ixworths Copper/black marans and Crested cream legbars as well as Sassos for meat. Though I love my birds and give them the best life I can, I have no compuction about killing them and eating them.
Because of health problems my garden has suffered recently, but I'm doing my best to get on top of it.
I'm into beach fishing (when I'm able), showing our toy poodles, antiques and anything to do with food:- growing, cooking, preserving and eating! I'm very fortunate in having a wonderful, understanding and supportive wife (Jenny) who I think is the most beautiful lass in the world!
I'm interested in environmental issues and have tried to live as gently on the planet as can.

Thanks for the welcome all. Gil, like the sound of the wines!
I'm in Ealand Jamanda. It's a bit quieter here than down on South Axholme. Makes it sound like an idyllic paradise doesn't it! Comment ca va Ksia? Would love to live in France but can't even get Jen to holiday there! Brittany would be my choice.
Ixy, Thanks for the link! The Ixworths are brilliant -such nosey little things. I have 2 strains so will be able to breed them when they get big enough.
Cheers

Ginkotree

Hello from south wales, glad that the ill health has not stopped you keeping chickens, the garden will forgive you and I hope you enjoy remembering how wonderful everything is as you walk lightly on the Earth Very Happy

Ginkotree it's because of current ill health I'm keeping chooks now! They're my new plough!! I've not stopped doing the garden simply cut right back on what I do! Jen bought me a book called "The half hour allotment " that explained to break everything down into 10 minute jobs and do 3 of them a day. I cut them down into 5 minute jobs and can now do 4 on a good day! I will get there! I figure if we all grow what we can and buy produce from as locally as we can, perhaps we can make the powers that be (commercial, industrial and political ) think before they wreck the planet.

Hello!
Tell me more about poodles, I love the non drop coat idea, you should see the size of the combined dust/dog hair bunnies around here! Embarassed
My gran used to keep poodles but I was too young to remember much about them, what are they like? Do they make good country dogs? Are they likely to chase?
mal55

The poodles are Mara (the silver) and Breagha (the white)
Dia Duit Liz. Are you in the Gaeltacht?
Woodsprite. Poodles are the most wonderful house dogs. They can be trained to do anything. In America they are used as gun dogs. sheepdogs and even sledge dogs. Most of the British mini and intermediate agility teams are toy or miniature poodles. They have 1 fault (the toys anyway) :-they're addictive! We have 6 including Danny Boy who was for sale but no one even came to look at!

Beach fishing's easy, stumbling goat. The hard part is catching stuff! I never catch much but I enjoy trying and it gives me a reason to be by the water. Haven't done any for a while as I can't cast anymore. It's one of those things you don't need to be good at to enjoy and even if you can't get out fishing, you can always play with your tackle!! : Shocked lol: With all the chooks I should take up fly tying!
