Hello from SuffolkHello, decided to join after recommendation from another member. Just have the chooks now, we took the two pigs to the abattoir this morning. Loved keeping them, will definately do more, but probably not until next year. Chooks are a mix of ex-batts for eggs and as pets and then a flock of Sussex and IGs for meat. I've been experimenting on the meat bird side but need help! Also thinking about Dexters, but they would have to be the meat strain, so a bit of research needed there too.

Little Egypt is in fact Glemsford.... not far from Long Melford.
Driving through at speed with your eyes closed is by far the best way to see it.

Hi there, welcom to DS.
We have dexter experts here who I'm sure won't mind having their brains picked. I'm just good at eating them though

I had no idea about Glemsford, its only the other side of Sudbury to us. Why's it called little Egypt?

Apparently after corn riots (dont know when) in Egypt, farm workers in Glemmy (affectionate local name) & the surrounding hamlets, marched upon Long Melford & (reputedly) broke every window in Hall(? main drag) Street. The army stationed in Bury St. Edmunds came over on the train to quell the uprising, & thereafter Glemsford became Little Egypt.
If ever you pass through, look for a chap called Roy Porter, cabinet maker, joiner, & general cantankerous old bastard of that parish... he can entertain people with many a story of the village. I haven't seen him in 15 years so if he's still alive he's usually in The Angel or The Cock.

Thanks for that, we often wander off for Sunday lunches at local village pubs, will wander over to Glemsford in the next few weeks!
