Hi and welcome to Downsizer Very Happy - We have a few members from Scandinavia, hope you enjoy the site

Do you focus on Mythology and Folklore from Scandanavia or worldwide? I am fascinated by the stories of the Æsir and Vanir - as well as Celtic mythology being from typical Irish/Scottish/Northern English stock

Yes, though technically since they are in a national park you're not supposed to pick them. I think most of them come from Finland.

I thought nobody would ever ask....

I live in the middle of cloudberry-land. To those of you unfortunate never to have had the pleasure: these berries grow on bogs in the mountains. They are golden, grow low on the ground and resemble rasberries in shape. One plant - one berry. Pick them and eat them from the ground and they do not taste much. Mix them with sugar and eat them with cream, preferably with waffles or "krumkaker", a coneshaped, crisp cake. They make heaven come alive.

The Finns do it even better and make Marli Lakka, a liqure that makes birthday, Christmas Day and every high holiday seem like not worth remembering.

Need I say more?

I lived in Sweden once, as an Erasmus student in Stockholm. Not an experience I would want to repeat.

I'm glad I did ask now Smile

They're sparse fruiters over here, you find them on some upland moors, and you rarely find any in fruit; they're remnants from the last ice age, and for some reason we don't have many female cloudberry plants over here. So although I've found cloudberries, its something that even the most persistent forager here in the UK would be unlikely to get enough of to do anything with, yet over there you get jam, desserts, all sorts of things with cloudberries in.

Might have to try to grow some.

I'll make some phone calls and find out a bit more about growing cloudberries. I know that it has beed discussed but I have no idea of the result. They are rather fickle in choice of soil and they have a great need of moisture. Watch this tread and I'll be back during the next few days with more info!

How wonderful modern computers are! I went on the net and found the following link:

Would this help? There are some references at the bottom of the page. Please ask if you need help in translating.
