Help needed in creating a brochure-type newletter pleaseGosh - I've never asked a question in here before... Do I have to learn techie-speak first?
Sorry - just joking
Okay - here's my problem. I've been made Editor of the Village Newsletter, which up until now has been set out on a double-sided sheet of A4 (one side in Welsh and t'other in English). We've now expanded in community events and community involvement so the newletter needs to expand too. I was thinking along the lines of an A5 'booklet' (A4 folded) and have been trying to sort out a template that I can use. I've been using 'Microsoft Publisher' (Mac users please don't spit) and have sort of worked out how to get a booklet - but I can't work out how to get it to print double sided, in order and with the alternative language version upside down and starting from the back...if you see what I mean.
Could anyone help at all? Better still, if you've got a template of such a booklet that would be great.

I use MS Publisher for doing that but I've learnt that its far easier to print to pdf first before attempting to print the damm thing out - The PDF version sorts out your printable pages and then you can print one side at once before moving onto the next side - at the end, fold it up and bob's your uncle you've got a newsletter
To save something as a pdf from Publisher you have to install a pdf printer on your machine - I usually use this one - Its nice and simple to install and just looks like another printer in the list

MJ, unless you're pressed for time I would suggest creating your own template from scratch - for the simple reason that you'll learn more about Publisher in general and how to do booklets in particular that way. Better to get familiar with it all now, rather that be stressing about how to do something in a tight deadline.

I used to produce a run of about 200 A5 booklets as a newsletter - it looks great, but it is SUCH a pain to copy, put in order and staple
I used to use Publisher, but avoided printing it out double-sided - I'd do it single-sided and then double-up when I photcopied it. I found the easiest way to sort out a template was to sit down with some bits of paper, arrange in to a booklet, stick page numbers on in big felt pen, disassemble the booklet and then go through the electronic template and manually type in your pagination in the header or footer (or whatever Publisher is calling it these days), so you know where you are.
I am sure that the software will do it for you in some kind of fantastic magical way - but my printer wasn't great and it only needed two pages to be stuck together or the photocopier to hiccough and all hell broke loose.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do Andrew. I have no problem creating the thing...it's printing it all out back to back, in order etc so it can just be stapled after that which is the problem. I donlt need templates - just advice on how to get the thing out of the printer and into my hand for stapling!

Exactly Chez! I've got to the stage where I'm thinking of doing this unless anyone in the world can tell me how to sort out the software/printing magical thing... All I need is to know how to do that and the rest will be a breeze...

Have you had a look at jocorless's pdf software? It sounds like it might do the trick.

I do the Parish Magazine in Word - but then send it on disc to a friendly printer who copies and stitches it.
