help with plantronics supra monaural headsetA question for the technology panel of Downsizer... I'm a bit stuck with a headset and wondering if/how it can be used with a BT line.
I've got a plantronics supra monaural h51/a headset. It has a quick disconnect as part of the cable. The bottom cable has 2 prongs that connect into some device, and also some sort of volume control.
I've seen bottom cables advertised for this headset with RJ45 connectors, but I suspect one needs to connect this into a suitable based telephone.
What do I need to attach/buy to use this headset for making calls via a BT line ? Help much appreciated.

I think that that's a headset only - they are used in call centres. think of it as being like the bit of an ordinary phone that has the ear and mouthpiece.
I would guess that the cables you've seen are not RJ45 but RJ11 (Someone will correct me because that's not the proper name)
I think that you would be able to replace the handpiece of an ordinary phone - although you may need to buy a base station - typically though the base stations are just for call disconnect rather than having a numeric keypad for dialing. Or does it have a hook on/off switch? Some phones have an extra rj11 socket for answer machine connection - Id expect it to work on those as well. But as I say without the on/off hook switch you'll have an issue.
I'd try a plantronics dealer for a proper answer.
Which call centre did you work in?

Yes, you're correct. The bottom cable has an RJ11 connector.

Mmm.. is any one else from the Downsizer technology panel willing to second the above ?
The bottom cable I'm looking is this one

I haven't had much joy with the dealers as they are not really interested in selling a cable worth a few quid.

Lol. This headset is a popular model used in call centres. I paid at least thirty quid for it a few years ago via eBay.

A quick look and I cant find a base station that allows you to dial.
So I think you need a phone with a headset port and either a cable adapter (£10) or a base station like one of these

If the headset has a volume control you might get away with just the cable - if you need amplification though it means one of the adapters. And depending on the phone you might need the basic base station anyway to provide the hook switch.,
