Hi People

Just to say hello and introduce myself

My better half and I are moving back to Cornwall this weekend after 12 years in exile. We are hoping to rent a place with enough space to grow our own veg, keep a few fowl and have a workshop for my woodturning. In doing a net search over the past week or two I have found your forum which seems to be a friendly mine of useful information and backchat Laughing

We are lucky in having most of our family still down in God's own county (5 of 6 kids) so we won't be alone but will welcome any advice (except don't do it) We'll be doing it on a shoestring (very thin one) but having been reasonably selfsufficient in the past and also country bumpkins by birth & upbringing we are determined to give it a go before we get to old to even try

Hello,

Well apart from making a few significant mistakes in your first post it's very nice to meet you. Smile

Mistakes?
Cathryn

Back chat, can't think what you mean. Wink And God's own country????

Smile I am teasing. It's good to see you here and I am sure you will find loads of advice and provide some of your own. Have you had a look in the articles section yet at all?

I have tried turning green wood, great fun and I got soaked. What kind of things do you make?
Bebo

Take no notice of her, she's one of the many deluded people on this forum that think Wales is the best place to live!

Welcome.
Bodrighy

Just to keep you happy:
Though born on the Lizard my family background is all originally wet & North Wales Laughing

I had a quick browse through the various sections and liked what I saw. That's what persuaded me to join up.

Apart from a lot of shavings and sawdust I turn anything that is round though I tend to specialise in more 'rustic' type of things as I use nearly all recycled or naturally sourced wood. I'll put my web site up sometime if it is appropriate

Edit: Freudian slip of the finger there, that should have read West

Hi there, and welcome to Downsizer Smile

Welcome. Are you moving back to the Lizard? Lovely place - very interesting plants.

I see you've met Cathryn already - she's just a trouble maker Laughing

Oh yes, and there's a space on your profile where you can put your website. We'd love to see it.
Cathryn

Huh! Smile

Yeah website please.
Bodrighy

OK I have added my website. Photos aren't professional mind

Croeso. I noticed that, although you included 'useful information' in your original post you missed out one other essential of the site.

UseLESS information.

There's a ton of it on here.

Hello there Very Happy Your wood turning is really lovely! It's one of many things I'd like to learn, but sadly I don't have the space or money.
Bodrighy

Thanks for the welcome. We are now safely ansconced in my son & daughter-in-laws house on the Lizard and looking for somewhere of our own to live. Full of dreams & day dreams which may or may not come true but at least we are back home. I suspect that we will soon be picking your collective wells of information & wisdom about all sorts of things. If there is anyone on here in this area we'd love to hear from you and your experiences.

Thanks for the welcome,

The web site seems to be OK from here and others seem to be able to access it. Is it still unavailable to you?

It is!

The more people we can stash away in the back of beyond, the more room there is in England for sensible people. Wink
