Crikey, that could cause some major changes ...
And the Oracle deal was for less than IBM's failed bid.

Oooo errr - Thats a massive change - I'm not sure anyone can predict what the fall-out might be
Oracle now have control of Java App Server, Weblogic Servers and OC4J plus still the biggest database vendors in the world - That leaves only Websphere as a commercial server technology that Larry doesn't have his sticky paws on - Not looking good

Oracle aren't renowned for their generosity. I wonder what implications this will have in the world of Java.

I was speaking to a Sun man a couple of months ago, he's confident that Oracle will help build the Sun brand, something that Sun never did. He thinks that they'll use Sun OSs to build a DB (i.e. Oracle) focussed platform so they can offer a Sun/Oracle appliance, he was talking about all sorts of Sun tech that has been totally underexploited commercially which Oracle should be able to do something with. He didn't give a monkeys about the open source side of things and doesn't expect Oracle to either.
