Hollow spuds

Due to numerous delays only got to dig some of my earlies this weekend...they were enourmous, the size of bakers, but when cut open reveal a big void in the middle, sometimes brown and rancid.

I've never had this before, what is it? No beasties apparent. Is it the abundant rain?

Don't ask me what variety cos I'll only look at my toes, shuffle a bit and mumble something about writing it down somewhere but forgetting where.

That's it - I'm digging the rest up tonight. Not too bothered as there are many many tubers this year.
