Homemade bass lure

I've been gradually making a few lures and salt water flies for the coming summer. Carved from ash, lightly weighed in the front belly area so it just stays under the surface and painted to mimic some of the local small fish. No idea if it'll catch anything but only a month or two to wait before trying.

Very pretty! Hope the bass like it!

Thats going some TC. The thought of you catching that first fish on a home made lure must be tantalising. Never mind, they'll soon be inshore. What paint have you used?

I've made half a dozen. I use a simple acrylic white wood undercoat, then add some grey for the next coat and then the secret top coat - glittery clear nail polish (Rimmel 500 disco ball and NYC gramercy glitz if you're interested). Cool Laughing

On a fishing basis only hun Laughing

Ooh, it's got the London Look.

Do you buy it yourself, or send Bugs in?

I used to have to buy gallons of nail varnish remover for work, and I'm sure the lady in Boots was suspicious.

I've not bought any on my own although I happily would. I often look at the prices, which are shocking for what the stuff is, and only get something if it's on offer.

I do have to make sure I clean my nails before going out of the house if I've been painting them though. Laughing

I'm now trying to get my masculinity back by looking at lead smelting. Cool
Nick

I used to melt lead over a Bunsen at lunchtime. No protection, and breathed in the fumes.

What could possibly go wrong?

On top of one of those asbestos gauzes, I hope (can't be too careful)
Nick

Actually, no. But it was in my mums kitchen ladle. I had a small industry churning out kobolds and goblins for the D&D kids.

Looks good Trea. Please post back as to how you get on with them. Smile

More likely to be the high heels that you were wearing.
Northern Boy

That looks fab. Bet it would work on Pollack as well. Good luck with it.

Nice lure mate, here's one of my home mades.

Very life like, how did you get the scale pattern - painting through a net or something?

Looking at the weather I may get to try mine out next week, it's going to be sunny if still rather cold.
Portland_Jon

First I cover the wood with tin foil and burnish it down, then spray the light base colour first. Next comes the black through a net followed by several coats of epoxy resin.

Cheers

Jon
