Umm. Just don't open a downsizer window/tab in your browser. You can turn off notifications and so on in your profile.

yep.just dont visit. I was away for almost 3 yrs but now i am back

Sorry to hear that you wish to leave. There's a button to the left of the page that says 'log out', that is sufficient as far as I'm aware.

But you can't leave... we've got you now. There is no escape

Pay no mind to HL, he's (mostly) harmless.
There's no real need to 'leave' leave, is there? Well, unless you wanted to stop yourself from posting I suppose, but even if you did that there's nothing other than your self-will to prevent you from lurking. Just log out & go for a bit of a stroll till you're ready to come back again. People often do you know!

There's a button with an 'x' in it at the top of this window. Click that.

It's very easy to leave a forum, you just stop visiting it.
Then the option is open should you wish to return. I came back too and realised I hadn't posted in about 3 years! (not that I 'left' exactly, I just didn't have the time for loads of different forums).

This is probably a more sensible question than some might think. If you are not that technical you may want to ensure that e-mail topic notifications stop arriving, and not be too sure how to stop that.

True, but if you're not posting then you don't get the notifications in any case.

Just do a good bit of inappropriate swearing - it works for me!

I don't- I've left DS alone at times in the past and they tail off as your threads die down, unless you're getting the hundreds of PMs asking you to come back, then you get them but considering tiggy last posted at the beginning of October, I doubt they will get too many to be a problem.

Well, I 'left' for a short while and I was getting loads of them, I am sure they would eventually die down, but not being able or not wanting to respond is a tad frustrating. I think if people do 'leave', they should be given the opportunity of adjusting their profile settings to allow them to at least switch off the email notification facility.

Yes

In your profile, you need to make sure the "Always notify me of replies:" button is turned off
Then you won't get set any emails.

I've never been sent emails.... (just the odd PM aimed at another Sally once in a wonder..... )
And I wander in and out of here a bit. Haven't had an email in 6 months or more I think.

That's because your profile is set like mine is in the picture. If you want emails set the button to yes.
|
Sally
|
OH NO! I don't WANT emails!
Just I thought that the default must be no-emails because I don't ever remember turning them off!

What I was trying to find out was could I delete myself from the membership list and just slink quietly away through the gap in the downsizer hedge .It seems easy to sign up to forums but not to escape if you think you maybe should reduce the things you belong to.Just not visiting seems a bit wooly.Im not stomping off in a huff slamming the catflap behind me its just wanting to reduce the temptation to lurk on the internet when I should be making rag mats.

There is a thread about blocking a website. You could do that.

Talking of notifications, my inbound email seems to be borked, so later on I'll probably get a barrow load of notifications

It'd be nice to have a way of turning them all off. Save that from happening.

You can turn them all off in your profile. I haven't had an email from downsizer ever.

Best of both worlds: - turn off notifications generally but, if you particularly want to know when a specific topic is updated, you can tick the 'notify me when a reply is posted' box under the reply writing box.
That way you get emails about that topic, but not about the rest.
(Hopefully, one of the mods or other techie people will be along later to correct this if I'm wrong).
