How do you dye paper pulp?

We're doing paper making next week and I was wondering what dyes you can use (if any) to dye the pulp?
Dogwalker

I think you can use cold water fabric dyes but I've only coloured the pulp with coloured paper - tissue or crepe I think, or things like tea, berries etc.
I seem to remember liquidized banana skins were interesting too.
Sorry can't be more helpful it was ages ago I did it and too much has happened between times to zap my memory.

last time I made paper with the kids we used coffee for some and red wine for the rest ( red wine goes a bluey colour, very pretty Smile )

Daughter wanted to make yellow paper, wondered about saffron or turmeric, but we didn't have any

I was wondering if procion dyes would work
Dogwalker

Would have thought any kind of fabric dyes, ink, paint should do the job, might need to do some trialpieces if it needs to be colourfast.

I think I would say, what are you using to make the paper with?

there's a bit of logic working through my mind that says if you're working with a wood pulp type paper, then the same dye you use for cottons would work.

i think the issue would be whether your paper would survive the treatments needed to set the dye, if setting it is necessary. igf it isn't, then go for it with anything water soluble you like.
