How long for delivery?

I ordered some stuff I need for work from an online supplier on 24th Feb. I paid by paypal and got the email receipt etc. I sent an email on Saturday to enquire where the stuff might be - no reply. I phoned twice yesterday - no reply and I sent an email via their contact form on their site yesterday morning - no reply.

Is that acceptable? Am I being impatient?

What do their T & C say about speed of despatch & delivery? I think we are now so used to extra fast same / next day delivery that we forget not all companies do this. Personaly I always check the quoted delivery / despatch times as to me that is as important as the price.

Justme
PS but no reply to your enquires is SOOOOOO bad.

What i tend to do then is send an email from an unrelated account asking about itenms they sell that would be a large sale for them, once they reply I then jump in with "now you are talking to me"

If it drags on to too long get in touch with PayPal.
Stacey

They say items are usually dispatched within 5 days and not to consider an item lost until 2 weeks have passed (which was hard but I did it Very Happy)

If it's out of stock etc then I'm ok with that as long as someone tells me.

Like the idea about the email btw Laughing

The frustrating this is that the other bits for the project arrived so quickly it was almost obscene* so they've just been sitting there gathering dust whilst I wait for the final piece Rolling Eyes

* I ordered some clock movements from this place at 3pm one afternoon and they were here in the next days' post.

The worse irony is that I could've got the other component from them as well but just didn't realise Evil or Very Mad

See? I haven't forgotten you Smile

I've just tried phoning again - no one answers so I've opened a paypal dispute.

The seller may be having problems but I really need these goods so I want a refund.
jema

it does seem to happen quite a lot online, they take your money but have not got the stock Mad
Stacey

I've just double checked the site in case I missed a message on the homepage saying that they're away or something and there's a box saying 'Orders currently taking 2-3 days to dispatch' - nothing else.

I've ordered the stuff somewhere else now and will want a refund. I know that small businesses can suffer from unexpected life events etc but if anything like that happens to me I put a notice on the homepage.

I dunno, I guess I'm feeling bad but I really need the stuff so I can carry on with work....

I once sold the same thing on three different sites at once Very Happy I made one replica and emailed the other person to tell them what had happend and asked them if they wanted the same or to choose from some other stock I had. They were quite happy and preferred the other thing I offered them anway - I think people generally are happy enough if you're honest with them.

Seeing as knitters seem particularly want to complain, I know all about exactly which yarn companies do this on a regular basis.
Rob R

I send things out after selling on ebay & the feedback comes usually at how quick it is (we have this amazing service in the UK called thefirst class post Very Happy which works most of the time) but when the products I sell on there are not cheap my USP has to be speed of delivery. If there is a delay I try to keep them informed. I find that I expect the same from suppliers because of that now- poor delivery schedules combined with not keeping me informed if delays occur are the quickest way to lose my business.
Stacey

I won't be using them again - I can't afford to.
mochyn

I ordered some yarn on Monday afternoon: by yesterday evening I'd completed the project! Less than 24 hours delivery. It can be done, and if there's a reason why it can't, the buyer must be told.
Stacey

Jeeez, this stuff must be cursed Rolling Eyes

I ordered it from somewhere else whilst waiting for the paypal resolution and 8 days later still no confrmation of it being dispatched or the money taken from my account Evil or Very Mad AND no response to an email to this seller either!!

Why don't small businesses understand that if they don't communicate people will go elsewhere?

Often because small businesses are not run by business people, but people expanding their hobby/job into selling the thing they make. And they have no concept that running a business is a skill, and it's not the same as knitting great jumpers/making lovely mugs/growing top quality chickens/being ace at massage.

And it's why many small businesses fail, I suspect.

I agree but these are just people who stock materials such as paints, fibres, sketchbooks etc. At least this lot have apologised for being late.
Nick

Indeed, but why would you start a business selling yarn, or sketchpads? I'll bet they were yarners, or sketchers first. I'm absolutely NOT saying, btw, that you shouldn't turn your hobby into a business, but I am saying there are others skills needed, and many don't have them, or even realise they ought to.

The first lot I ordered from do party supplies and other stuff as well - I think they were probably just trying to cash inon as many markest as they thought were lucrative. Someone I've just ordered something from is a quilter and lists their shows on their site to say when they'll be away at shows etc - can't argue with that.

The ones who are also late seem to stock such a massive amount of different craft stuff on their site and also dye their own fibres. I think they're trying to do too much personally but I'll give them one mroe chance and if they flunk that I'll go elsewhere. I've already boycotted my local yarn shop because of shockingly bad service - there'll be nowhere left for me to buy anything soon Very Happy

People do seem to have a rosy glow of what running your own art/craft business is like. They tell me how lucky I am to be 'making' all day but the reality is I'm more likely to be prinitng and cutting businees cards, packing and posting goods, responding to emails etc. The making is only about 50% of it.
