How much rent would you pay?The business in this link is closing down because the council want to increase the rent from £1000 a year!I would be dancing if I had got away with paying rent at that level for the last 14 years! We know this cafe and whenever we visit it is heaving with customers, the food is always good. £1k a month would be reasonable at the least, so him crying over paying £333 a month is quite sad. If he can't make it work just because it will cost him another £250 a month then shame on him. Sounds like he is playing the "victim of greedy council" card.
I bet the queue to take on the tenancy will be a mile long, all that hard work he put into starting the business and someone else is going to benefit. What I find sad is he is going to put those people on the dole becuae of his own incompetence/greed. Perhaps the cafe manager will have the sense to take it on. |

Glynllifon doesn't get that many visitors as the local authority is rubbish about marketing it. As a centre it is badly run and the facilities are nothing to write home about.
Dealing with Gwynedd Council is like swimming in treacle. |

Yes its busy in summer but as a year round visitor its often a ghost town out of season. Also the sudden charges for the car park that came in last year & the increase cost to enter the park its suddenly a costly walk in the woods to go there. Plenty of free woods to walk in round here.

car park charges could be a killer, they tried that for a few years at the Country parks in Swindon, and it was murder on them

Glynllifon is a fantastic place, but totally undervalued by its managers as far as I can see.
The poor tenants who rent the craft units have a really awful deal. We dropped in for a quick visit, just before Christmas, on a Saturday and the place was deserted and freezing cold. There was one jewellery maker there and she had bought her own portable heater with her. The craftmakers/artists who have made the big time have all left long ago and the place just doesn't buzz. Glynllifon could be a great 'attraction' for residents and tourists alike, all year round, not just the odd event - sadly, we (the Welsh in general) don't seem that good at blowing our own trumpets about the things, talents and places we have to be proud of. Maybe that's a bit of a sweeping statement, I'm sure there are people and places who do it well but Gwynedd isn't one of them. Could do with taking a leaf or two out of the Peak's and Lake Districts' book on self-promotion. EV |
