They've come here instead.

Welcome

Hello hello2
Nick

Perhaps all 3,000 of us should go visit! Do you have a spare room?
Oresai

Ha, lots of spare room but this wee island is only twelve miles by six, so an extra 3,000 might get a bit crowded Wink
Thanks for the welcome, looking forward to my time here. Smile
Nick

That's OK, we'll leave Behemoth behind. That should provide space for all.
Oresai

In that case, you`re all welcome, please bring beer and munchies. Smile

Hi

Which bit of Orkney are you on? I've had a few trips up there for work, lovely place, lovely people!

Welcome! Very Happy
Oresai

Hi, I`m on Sanday, one of the outer north isles. Been here about twenty years now. Smile

I can bring some beer but unless you can work miracles a packet of milk chocolate, biscuit and creamy caramel sweets won't go far.

Ohoo what is it like. I see a property for sale there with its own beach. It looks tempting, but I fear my boys would hate me if I took them to a place so remote? (also I think I would miss trees) Wink
Oresai

Ooh, caramel sweets sounds fine to me! Very Happy
There are lots of properties for sale here at the moment, it IS remote and the winter weather can be offputting, but if you don`t mind winter wildness and isolation, it`s a fine place to be...the lowest crime rate in the UK and at least here I can go out and leave my door open without fear. Smile
Good local school with only about 60-odd pupils...there are just under 500 folks here altogether. Ferries run twice a day and are pretty reliable but (I think) expensive.
Isn`t paradise here by any means but in summer, does a pretty good impression of it. Smile

Welcome to downsizer Very Happy

Here was where I saw advertised. Do you know it?
alice

Hello there *waves madly* Very Happy
I'm over on Stronsay, but I've visited Sanday and it's beautiful. You have my sympathy though because I think your winter ferry timetable is even worse than ours Very Happy

Come- join us - the more non-Welsh people the better. Wink
Oresai

@Cho-ku-ri, yes, I know Tresness, lovely propery but awful pricey. Smile
Got some fabulous stretches of private beach (private never stops locals from going there though:) )
Alice, you`re right there! Smile When the Varagen broke down recently we`d a whole week where the boat left for Kirkwall around half ten to come back around one! Bit manic, going intae toon.
Probably the same on Stronsay today, but bit of a gale oot there again, (plus hail, sleet, rain, hail, hail and more hail...Very Happy..my ducks are flying backwards across the garden, hee. )

Razz @ Silas

And welcome from an adopted Welsh-people.

Hi there, and welcome Smile

I've been to Orkney quite a few times including winter, and thought about farming / living there. One house I looked at was on Sanday [plus farms on Rousay and Egilsay]; I thought Sanday was a lovely place.
Ginkotree

Wow. looks amazing from the property post, ,is there proper soil there or is it all very sandy and does the salt in the air make your garden different, backward flying ducks sound fun.. mine all went down the lane to live on the big lakes, all the locals love them, they wont come home now.
