I Have Reached A Whole New Low

Thanks to the joys of pregnancy cravings, I feel very ashamed. I went out with the intention of buying Super Noodles, and not only did I succeed, I even ate them. The worst thing is I looked at the ingredients and knew there was nothing natural in there, just scary chemicals, yet I still ate them.

I think in future I'm just going to have to try really hard to ignore my cravings, especially when they are getting this bad. A couple of days they forced me into buying Angel Delight. At this rate the baby's going to have two heads Embarassed

I think I'll just stick with the sushi cravings, at least that's healthy.

I've heard of people craving Coal! strange...
i was personally pickled in tomatoes, and my brother was beef flavor hula hoops.
Becki

I like super noodles.
Azura Skye

no idea what super noodles are : D
But when i was in college I liked to eat 10 min spaghetti, with some grated cheese and tomato ketchup : ) that was my super noodley thing.
cab

Oh, but theres nothing bad about angel delight. Wonderfully, gloriously fake, yet so very good.

No excuse for the supernoodles though Laughing
Chez

I went through a pot-noodle craving a couple of months ago. Does one get low in MSG?

I was actually really disapointed to find that they've changed the flavour of the butterscotch Angel Delight slightly.

But yes, I am eternally ashamed of Super Noodle consumption. However I did try and make up for it by stuffing myself with wild raspberries afterwards!

spaghetti and tomato ketchup is an excellent quick dish but you should never admit to eating it (I think it's delicious).

Only to the heaven for people who's bodies don't rot after they've died because they've eaten so many preservatives ...

i always claimed not to have any cravings......utill i found myself one evening drinking a cup of instant gravey. and i though it was normal to get through three to four jars of crunchy peanut butter. Embarassed and i distinctly remember my brother in laws look of astonishment as i wolfed down steeming hot muffins with fresh cream. "do you not want some cake with that bowl of cream?" there was so much cream the muffin dissapeared. mmmmmmmm

and super noodles won't kill you once in a while, and childhood memories are made of angel delight! Wink
trough away like a little preggy piggie while you can at least you are not throwing up!!!!!!!!

I had 'Oily Fish Week' with Leo - would eat nothing but tinned fish for a week, so Arv went out and bought a huge amount. And then I couldn't look at it.

And then there was Meat Week:

"I cooked a nice leg of lamb for my tea"
"Oh yes, what did you have with it?"
"Nothing. Just lamb."

The annoying ting is I also crave raw fish sushi, but being pregnant I'm not allowed raw fish. This whole pregnancy thing isn't much fun, I'm looking forward to it being over. Only 6 months to go!

I would but the Tesco here doesn't sell sushi. Sadly an hour's bus journey is required for my sushi cravings.

poor you. i know how awful cravings can be if you just can't get what you want
sally_in_wales

sushi is pretty easy to make if you stick to the seaweed sheets wrapped round dressed rice wrapped round salmon/tuna/ any other fish you're allowed. THen you could eat as much as you like Smile
AnnaD

I have most of the ingredients for suchi, but I just need to get some veg for it. The problem is when I cook I end up having to lie down for half an hour afterwards. I'll maybe take a trip to a chinese supermarket when I feel up to it.
Chez

I'm sure that Japanese ladies eat plenty of raw fish whilst pregnant, though. A lot of this advice is culturally specific Sad.

I agree though. Pregnancy sucks. The only minor positive factor about it is that after it ends, you have a baby to look after, and that's pretty horrible for six months as well, IMHO.

After that, though, it starts to look up Smile.

Awww, he's really cute. I am looking forward to having one of those.
I have the same thought about Japanese ladies, but from everything I've heard, raw fish is one thing you need to avoid the most. I'll stick with veggie for now as it is also very good.
Chez

Cute when he's not trying to bite my boobs Sad.

It's so difficult to make informed judgements - for example, I've been craving soft and blue cheese. So I've been eating it - but only from the cheese man in Llanfyllin, who I think has high standards. And then a friend who is a midwife told me that she'd had to look after two women who miscarried due to listeria during the last two years.

Never mind the standard of your cheese supplier. Any soft/blue cheese is OUT. I will not go into detailed stories but just stay away. The supplier may be 110 % but there may still be a listeria danger. When pregnant the chances are just too great. Please Chez, crave something else!
Chez

It's dangerous if you have a compromised immune system or the cheese has listeria in it. As far as I understand it, all cases of pregnancy-related miscarriage from listeria have come from green salad - *none* from cheese.

With respect Mihto, these things are risks and choices for women to weigh up and make themselves; not to be scaremongered in to. I won't be simply an incubator for nine months - and that is my right.

We had a horrible case in Oslo a short while ago where nearly full term twins died after the mother was served soft cheese in the HOSPITAL, of all places. These cheeses were bought from a highly qualified supplier.

Pregnant women can eat most things but some cheeses are on the NO list. If you google listeria in pregnancy you will find plenty of examples. It's like drinking alcohol: you make an informed choice when you go against advice, but nobody can stop you. I had no problem with the idea of being an incubator during my pregnancies; we have so few children that those few months simply do not matter. So, Chez, I'm a great admirer of you in most things but here I would advice you to think twice.
Sherbs

I ate really well while I was pregnant, probably the healthiest diet I've had in my entire adult life. I did find it hard giving up blue cheese and pate but once I discovered pasteurised mayonaise and pasteurised soft cheese it made up for a lot.

The only time I really cracked was one day in ASDA doing the weekly shop I found myself absolutely unable to resist the little packets of salted peanuts. I picked one up and ate the entire contents standing there in the aisle.

I had to hand the cashier an empty packet.

That's great, Mihto - for you. But it's not for me. And I don't recollect asking for your advice on this subject. My body and what I do with it is no-one's business but my own - I deeply resent the fact that once one becomes pregnant, ones body becomes public property and strangers and virtual strangers feel that they have carte blanche to chip in with their opinion about how one should be living and the decisions one should be making.

I also resent the popular misconception that one should spend nine months beatifically gestating and incubating. That is some people's experience; but it's not mine.

The fact that people make these assumptions about one and impositions upon one makes me angry, as you can see. So please, don't inflict it on me - it's not your place.

I wish I was able to eat healthily now. I had such good intentions, but the minute the morning sickness kicked in it just wasn't possible. But the minute it goes I will be back on a healthy diet.

I think that's easier when they're smaller Smile.

That's just what the women you chat up are telling you Wink Wink.

Anna - that's good news. I had it until roughly six months, both times. I just tried to keep telling myself that it was a very positive thing because there must have been lots of hormones about :/.

You mean the ones that fall at my feet? Just realised this sets me up for an obvious joke about foot odour now...

I guess it depends whether your chat-up lines include "Hey, want me to give you a baby? I've got one in a box, RIGHT HERE" Laughing

Foot odour, schmoder. That's just character Smile.
