I'm a lucky beekeeperOwing to stuff happening we've missed checking the bees for a couple of weeks. My O.H. discovered the bait hive which we'd had some distance from the apiary full of happy bees this morning, and the biggest colony swarmed today while he was checking poultry onto an apple branch 3 ft. from the floor----so easy to take and marched straight into their new home---That's 2 lots of bees I could so easily have lost.

That's great Lottie
You must be doing something right! Leaving them alone is probably best practice then. Where is your bait hive situated sun/shade, high/low?

Several hundred yards from the other hives in a sheltered corner between some young fruit trees so it is fairly sunny and not too shaded.I was expecting to lose bees and I haven't so pretty pleased about it.

Sounds like you have an ideal location, we were told that a sheltered glade was best, somewhere for the bees to hang when they swarm, shelter from the wind and some shade.Things seem to be picking up for the bees with the promised heatwave but the storms have not helped.
