I Want to Give up DrivingRADIO 4 Monday 11:00 I Want to Give up Driving
Asthmatic Friend of the Earth and self-confessed car driving hypocrite, Dave Cohen, wants to give up his car addiction. But can he persuade the rest of the planet to give up, too?

I saw a piece on fuel cell technology the other night on Fifth Gear- it certainly looked like the future & ever since I first heard about the concept in school, it has been something that seems ludicrous not to pursue further. The Japs seem to be the leaders in terms of development with this, and I hope it works out, as it must surely be a better solution than shifting the emitions problem to the power stations?

I would be a self confessed car junkie, but since got the bike I avoid it as much as possible. I'm saving £45 a week on fuel at least an hour a day on my travelling time.

I hate driving, I'd love to not have to do it so often
Must try harder to magic up enough money to give up full time commuting either that or hope they hurry up and invent a teleport system, it would be so nice to be zapped home at the end of the day

Would it be a good idea to publish Lozzie's car use article at the weekend then?

with a bit of planning they are pretty useless .
in a metal box you cant hear the world , smell the world , touch the world ,see the world and foraging is impossible on the m1 (legally).
i almost never need a car ,i do need a van or waggon some times ,train and busfor some nesscessary journeys .
mostly dpack walks .
(unless i have a last minute booking holiday somewhere for the first time in years , the tree whips are coming along and in 2 weeks im off .air miles and car miles are similar so plenty new trees .it wont really make any difference to the large scale picture but it makes me feel better cynic
there are better ways than "stuck in traffic "
