ID Pine Cone pleaseCan anyone ID this cone for me please? It's 5" tall, roughly 4" at its widest, the tree has long double needles about 5" long and the whole tree has a rather conical shape to it. It's growing in London (my Mum's garden). She bought it Christmas 1991 as a 1ft potted Christmas tree covered in fake snow. In the New Year she washed off the fake snow and planted it in her garden - it's now a whopping tall tree and loaded with these huge cones. Any idea what type it is? That's a Scots Pine cone next to it for comparison.

looks a bit like a stone pine, but it seems unlikely as a christmas tree variety Got a pic of the rest of the tree?

How about a pic. of the needles? That's one of the diagnostics for conifers.

I looked up Stone Pine on Wiki and that's the one! Definitely. Not quite the same canopy shape as Mum's as she has 'pruned' hers over the years but same bark, same cone, double adult needles, single juvenile. And edible nuts! Going to get some sown this week - brought back loads of cones with me.
