Infested chicken advice needed please Quote: | i thought i'd better spray my chicken house today as well as clearing them out because the weather's been so hot. i came out of there crawling with something i couldnt see! itching all over. suppose it must be mites .. cant see anything and cant see anything on chickens. Any tips? i've sprayed their house big time and i'll see how it goes .. maybe use a pressure washer to clean it out? dont know how to treat the chickens though. they're not free ranging because of our murderous jack russell but they've made themselves a couple of dust bowls. HELP |
A friend has asked for my help with the above problem - so I am now asking on here - advice needed please.
Not sure what she means by sprayed - I'll ask.

I think that this is the point where Chez reaches for the blowtorch...

I thought that - does it sound like red mites?

it does
redmites are very small and dark when not full of blood. The easiest test for redmite is wipe along the perch with a tissue... if you see blood, it is redmite
the spray she is talking about might be mite spray
non chemically methods of treatment are blow torch (accompanied by manic shouting 'die! die!') and sprinkling diatom around. Not at the same time.
we use blowtorch and diatom as a preventative measure and it works
edit to add: that treatment is to the *housing* not the actual chickens.....

You can get some stuff in a little dropper that you can put on the chickens, like you can get for dogs and cats, use that at the same time. Sorry i cant remember the name but someone on here will probably know what i am on about.
