Infrared device thingy for connecting PC to phoneMy phone has a camera and an infra red port plus a place for a connection lead. I thought infrared would be more helpful as I could use it for different things. I understand some newer models of PC come with an infrared thingywotsit built in so does that mean I could just hop out to Maplin and pick up the cheapest on the shelf? The manual doesn't seem highly enlightening and web searches are confusing my delicate little mind at the moment.

What are you expecting to do with the port? I though IR was only very low bandwidth stuff like keyboard/mouse etc.

You are better off getting the lead. A lot of newer desktop devices have bluetooth, wireless or both. IR isn't really used much.

Transfer pics as I gather that is possible. I will have another check of the manual. It's an end of line model, very handy for me. Would rather not buy the lead but if necessary I might go ahead.
Cheers.

Mainly because it's very unreliable and depends on a clear line of sight. Put your mug down in the wrong place and bang goes the signal (plus your pictures if you're using certain types of camera).

I'd agree that you're much better off with the lead... I bought the 'reccomended' bluetooth device for my phone and it was flaming useless. A quick search of Google and I found that hundreds of people worldwide had the same problem. I took it back and exchanged it for the (cheaper) lead.
(Annoyingly I could have (in theory) sent pics to my neighbours phone, but not my own!)
