Introducing- The Welly Sock!

Tested on Downsizers!

These are the socks I've been developing over the last few weeks, in pure wool, machine washable at up to 40 degrees, and dip dyed in bright colours (they look far less bright in the photo, they really are loud in real life). Long enough to wear just over the knee or in most cases turned down below it to help stop draughts in your welly top, testing has shown that these stay up well on most leg types (very funky with kilts too). Very warm and cosy inside boots and wellies, knit on an antique hand cranked sock machine so a good environmentally sound production method as well Cool

This batch are going to Wonderwool, but they'll be going into my shop soon as well as being available to order. Only £15 a pair, complete bargain Very Happy

Fee

Oooooh, I want a pair!!! Are you seeling them on ur site, Sally?
Fee

Damn, my secret is out Rolling Eyes

Nah, the kinky leg model is super skinny, so on real people they sit just above the knee, the nice thing about these is you can wear them so you get a nice band of colour over your wellies, or turn them down to really fill up the welly top stopping those draughty bits when the wind is howling Very Happy
Fee

I have to have some for Glastonbury!
Beckyess

Those colours are awesome! I can vouch for how warm a comfortable they are! I might just have to invest in a funky coloured pair though lol!

Fab socks Sally but as an aside I am quite concerned that both Simon and NL are getting hot under the collar over a plastic leg with nothing attached to it Shocked

Could you knit wooly stockings on that machine of yours? My mother's always after them. I must get some cash out tommorow!
sally_in_wales

Come and fondle my legs on the stall (the display legs that is) I have half a pair of silk stockings on the other leg so you can see how a finer yarn knits up, I can do thin woolly ones that will be similar in feel Very Happy These machines were designed with 'proper' stockings in mind
Nick

Is there a gusset attachment you need then?
sally_in_wales

Nick Howe wrote:

That would be tights dear. Can tell you don't get near ladies hosiery often Rolling Eyes
Saying that, the original instruction book does come with pictures of scary knitted combinations that can apparently be made on these, but I havent even contemplated trying tose Laughing
Nick

Oh yeah. I'm being thick today. I think I'll go shopping instead.

Damn, I didn't see this before I went. Never mind. Can I comission some nearer Christmas? Is your machine the same as the other one someone had floating around the wonderwool building? It did look fascinating!
Cathryn

Cool See those red ones second along in the photo ... they are mine Very Happy
Penny

Laughing Laughing Well let's see them on then!
Cathryn

Oh they are too nice to wear - and especially not in wellies Laughing OH keeps talking about those red stockings Sally Rolling Eyes you can't take em anywhere - Wonderwool for goodness sake Rolling Eyes
sally_in_wales

I have three pairs of welly socks still available, and am offering them post free to Downsizers!

I have:
A rainbow pair (second from left in the pic at start of this thread) in a size 5.5-7 approx.
the Yellow shading to Green pair in size 7-8 approx (Sold to Fee)
the White shading to blue pair in size 6.5-7.5 approx.

I reckon all sizes could be fudged by a half size either way of the estimated sizes. I've also just added them as a custom knit option to my shop at www.sallypointer.com/shop. These three pairs available now at £15 with no postal charges though Very Happy
Fee

Could I have the yellow to green ones please? If they haven't gone already! I'm a size 9, but sounds like they'll be fine Very Happy

sally_in_wales

All yours Fee Smile Pm me your address and I'll post them them tomorrow, you can send a cheque at your leisure Cool
Fee

woohoo! I'll send you a cheque tomorrow too Very Happy

Go on then. I'll have the rainbow ones, if no-one's nabbed them first. We're in your neck of the woods next week. We could collect.
Cathryn

Sally - can you do me a couple of pairs of shorter ones please?

Thought I'd report back on the welly socks after a weekend of wear in the mud.

They kept my feet lovely and snug, and my lower legs bone dry! I hadn't fully appreciated how warm they were keeping my feet in the evenings until I accidentally got mud all over them while I was taking my wellies off up by the Stone Circle, so didn't wear them on Sunday. By Sunday night, me feet were FREEZING in two pairs of normal socks!

SO, thanks Sally, I'd recommend them to anyone in a muddy wet field for a weekend Wink
sally_in_wales

Excellent, thats really great to hear Very Happy
Jamanda

I gave mine their inaugural wearing at the weekend too. They were lovely and cosy too. Thank you Very Happy
Pea

These socks look fantastic Sally. Will be after a pair for my sister Christmas present, might treat myself too.

I only have small feet, do you still have the blue and white ones left?

Pea
sally_in_wales

I think I'm on round two of socks now, so can make pretty much anything to order. Just hop onto the shop and you can specify what you want as part of the ordering process Very Happy
Pea

Great Sally. Will do.

Pea
Wingy

Sally, can you make these for teenagers too? I know my daughter would LOVE a pair.
sally_in_wales

I can make any adult size pretty much, and I can easily alter the height of the leg, the sock machine uses a fixed 84 needles, so I can't quite persuade it to do childrens sizes, but adult sizes are fine
Pea

I finally got round to making that order.

Very Happy
sally_in_wales

So you did, I'll get onto those as soon as I'm back from the banquet next week Smile
jamsam

ive been wearing my welly socks to bed and now im being nagged by the kids as they want some...bugger...
Pea

Welly socks minus the wellies I hope Laughing
