It's all gone Red!!!!My laptop has gone all funny, loads of things have all gone red for some strange reason, all black horizontal lines for instance are now red but if I wiggle it about a bit it goes back to normal, anyone know what could be the problem?

Sounds like a loose connection between the motherboard and the screen. Gentle taking apart and checking for loose ribbon cables maybe in order. If you do be very very careful as they're easy to break.

Thanks vegplot, I thought that might be the case but I don't really want to go messing about with it so might try and seek out an expert to have a butchers for me.

Not sure if this makes any sense but if I squeeze the lappy near the power button on the top right hand side it sorts it but once I let go it's back to the red?????? I presume that would rule out a problem with the LCD screen and as vegplot says it could be the cable?

certainly sounds like it.
depending on your laptop, you may be able to access the cable by simply removing your keyboard. most laptops have removable keyboards - you need to look for hidden catches - normally between the function keys.

I was sweating for a bit there!!!
I managed to pull the thing to bits but to be honest I'm not really sure what I am looking for but thankfully I am left with no screws and it seems to be working ok apart from the original problem which is still a pain in the arse but at least I don't seem to have totally mothered it!
Nightmare getting the keypad out, they don't make it easy do they?

i would look in the area you were squeezing and see if there are any cables connected to a circuit board of some sort. it will probably be a flat ribbon cable. i would check to make sure it is properly seated. it could also have contamination on the connection points - see if you can pull the cable out (it may have catches) and then make sure the points are clean.

Have you tried a search engine search for your model of laptop and something like "taking apart". You may find some geek has documented the procedure.
You shouldn't do any damage taking a laptop apart if you don't use excessive force and are nice and gentle. Oh, don't forget about static. In humid summer conditions it's not normally a problem but if it's dry and cold it can be a real issue.
I tore a ribbon cable the first time I took a laptop apart, I thought I'd trashed it but a very clever chap called Sunil Vadgama, who worked at the same place I did, soldered each tiny track back together like a surgeon.

It's still knackered, I'm gonna get a new laptop so any advice on something in the £300/£400 price bracket would be appreciated.
