Just interested to know what this is...We saw this growing quite prolifically in clumps on the beach today. It seemed so odd that it could survive the salty/windy/sunny environment. Anyone know what it is?

Is it sea-camphire? Not sure ...

Can you blow up a bit of the photo so we can see the flowers more clearly?

Do you mean sea campion? That's what it looks like to me too.

I'm thinking sea campion, but not sure the leaves look right. I'll have a look at abook.

I think I either meant sea-campion or rock samphire . But I've had a look in my book and it doesn't match the latter - I don't have a pic of the former.

having consulted books, i now see that it is not scurvygrass (although similar) and is indeed sea-campion

never seen such a thing, but MJ's photos look like the plant has compound or lobed leaves of some sort, while Jamanda's link looks like simple, entire leaves....

Yeah, that's what I thought. M-J - you are going to have to go and get a close up.

Flowers look wrong (too big) for samphire and leaves not campion. It's a mysery plant at the moment MJ!

Looks like sea rocket to me, Cakile maritima. But a close up of leaves and flowers would help.

Are you going to be able to get back for a closer look and maybe a closer pic?

I agree with Cab - almost certainly Sea Rocket.
