Kenwood ChefThrough Freecycle I've got the chance of an old Kenwood chef. The donor desrcibes it as 'a bit worn' and says that 'it'll mix a small christmas ckae but not a big one' (?). I hoping to use it for mincing and bread dough mainly.
Does anybody know how easy/expensive it is to service these things or if there are any common reasons for poor perfomance that can be easily rectified, new brushes or belts etc.
Thanks in advance.

I have an old Kenwood that OH bought off E-bay. It does seem a little underpowered compared to what I would have expected - it struggles to knead dough properly and I have given up trying to mince meat with it and have gone back to using my trusty Spong.
It definitely gives the impression of a slack drive belt or something, but not being very handy with this sort of thing, I haven't looked into it further!

Thanks - I'll see whre I get?
Any other commetns before I put the same post on the RC site.
I'd put it on the jammie Oliver site as well but I'd only get asked "what colour is it?"
I wonder if there's a website for an enthusiasts club. People are odd like that

KenwoodWe bought one brand new (about £250?)
My wife liked it (think she had always wanted one) I was really disappointed that it wouldn't handle 3lb of flour, and made sound like the gears stripping. The words mickey mouse spring to mind. Mincer and sausage maker work ok.
I still think a mouli type food processor for about £50 was a better buy. What would I know anyway, I'm only a bloke

My mum had one when i was a kid and it always sounded very unhealthy when going at full whack on bread dough. It lasted 20 years before stopping. I've tried to get it off her but it seems to have sunk to the bottom of the pile in their sedimentary lifestyle.

Yet...may be I'll customise it
even if it''s crocked there's a nice stainless steel mixing bowl with it.

To get back on the subject, you could ask Kenwood themselves
http://www.kenwoodservice.co.uk/main/mainpage2.htm
They seem a bit like LandRover in that you could build an old model completely from spare parts.
