Lack of cycling locking facilities at conservation sites. There is nothing I enjoy more than cycling off at the weekend with my camera to one of the local nature reserves but not one of them around here has secure locking facilities for cycles.
I usually hide my bike in the undergrowth or chain it to a tree but surely CTNC, RSPB etal should be at the forefront of encouraging the use of enviromentaly friendly transport & knowing my bike is still going to be there when I get back from my mooch would be a start.
What's it like where you are?

We have a small local reserve, and I know exactly what you mean about lack of cycle locking facilities. I'd rather have the bike locked in plain view in the car park than trying to find a suitable tree. Last time we went there we took the grandparents, so I cycled and they drove. When I got there I put the bike in the back of the car!

I think they call it a tree.

Obviously overgrown from lack of use - perhaps thats why they don't bother anymore, seems a waste of money if no-one uses them.

Turns out that you have to use such a cycle lock a lot to stop that happening. What with bikes not blocking out light, not putting a lot of force or wear down on the ground and not spilling toxic oil all over the place. The spot I leave my bike on its stand down on the allotment used to be nice and clear, but the nettles won that battle and I leave it somewhere else now...

That's OK if you carry a 5 or 6 ft chain as I do but most of the leisure cyclists carry those D locks or plastic coated 3ft chains & they won't go around anything substantial like a tree.
Even with a long chain I still have trouble getting the chain through both wheels & around a tree.

Contact THEM, they'll listen, and I'm sure will be well up for installing what you ask. I work for a local authority and manage such sites, unless we know what the public want we can't justify spending the VERY tight budget we have.
