Land EnclosureJust been reading up about this over the centuries, very interesting stuff. We should start a reversal of land enclosure!
Where we live is on a huge estate owned by one family who enclosed it in the 17th Century,
Shall we just declare UDI and tell them they don't own it anymore

So if you don't graze the commons, Jamanda, how do you manage the land to stop it reverting to scrub/wood ?

It is reverting in a number of places. The parts which can be are mown. It was grazed up until F&M, but not since. It's a shame, but as it is entirely open and a busyish road runs through it it isn't really practical. I think the farmer would set up his own electric fences and drive the stock home at night when it was grazed.
If someone wanted to, in theory we could still give them permission, but I can't see anyone wanting to

The National trust took my father to court years ago. He wanted to maintain a claim on grazing animals on Selborne Common (a rather nice beech clad woodland with pasture on the North Downs) but they didn't. They failed to get an injunction thankfully.

Are there any horsey people around your way who might like the chance to do so? Such people seem happier with moving electric fences about than most others.
