Last chance to buy....

Chips from the chip shop made with maincrop spuds. The changeover will be in about a week or so. Speeded up apparently by the contents of two of McCains' stores going rotten so they've been buying up spuds like nobody's business.

What variety is it that is grown for chips?
sean

Maris Piper and Markies are the two main ones.

Mmmm...chips
Penny Outskirts

Had home made chips last night - naughty but nice Twisted Evil Used Estima, and had one of the biggest tatties I've ever seen Shocked

I can't stand chips with new potatoes, they're not the same!!
Fee

mmmm....chips Laughing

Sure we'll treat ourselves to some at the festival this weekend, they're always a bit pap at most fast-food type places though Sad
sean

That's cos they use frozen chips, unlike yer artisanal hand-crafted North Devon chip.
judith

Do you have problems eating them and end up with salty vinegar down your front?

hehe, indeed not, not even like Surrey chips from the pretty dodgy chip shop across the road, and that's saying something!

Oh, and chips are an all-weather foodstuff Wink How nice is it to have a poke of chips when you're at the seaside?

Drool...got me thinking about the best seaside chips I've ever had, at Whitby in the North East...mmmm...followed by a good ice-cream.
Tittch

I do oven baked chips with Estima or Maris Piper usually. Have never cooked deep fried ones in my entire life..... Smile
sean

They're not chips then, just inappropriately-shaped tiny roast tatties.

Absolutely, shame on you Tittch, if it ain't been deep fried it ain't a chip, no ifs or buts.
Bernie66

And chips is chips is chips. Accept no substitutes, ever Laughing

You don't keep a butt like mine by deep-frying one's chips Wink
sean

Fed up. The maris bard, which we should have moved onto this week, aren't ready to be dug yet. The spud supplier brought a sample in and they're the size of ping pong balls. Two more weeks of very old maris piper which are taking longer and longer to rumble and trim.
