Isn't it the story that an accident dumped a cargo of it in Yorkshire and it started growing?
In which case it cannot be that hard...
A bit like the Rhubarb triangle and almost in the same area, you've heard of Pontefract Cakes?

Yes, I do associate it with Yorkshire, like rhubarb. I am in Lincolnshire, however!
I have never liked liquorice to eat as sweets - yuck - but have recently been really enjoying it as a tea.
Ah ... have now read page from Brandy Carr rhubarb nursery about growing liquorice and see that it involves digging up the crowns and storing them over the winter.
I think that may put it into category of things I'm not going to grow. Chances of storing crowns and then remembering to look for them AND finding them again in the garage at the right time of year are near zilch.

Would growing it in a tub be practical and then overwintering it under cover? I've got a few neglected plants in pots and they die down and re-grow. I must pot them up into a tub as they may well prove productive with a bit of TLC.
