Lots of little flies in potted plants

I brought some plants in from the greenhouse to over winter. I have lots of small flies that seem to be living in the compost or on the plants.
How do I get rid of them, I put a bit of washing up liquid in the watering water but that's not seen them all off. What might get rid of them, they're a pest.
Jam Lady

Probably fungus gnats, live in the soil on organic matter as juveniles. There are yellow sticky strips that trap them, Neem oil works well, and a friend of mine suggests strong coffee (at room temperature or cooler, no cream or sugar) sprayed on the plants. Keeping surface of the potting soil drier also helps. Maybe try a mulch of aquarium gravel size stones as a mulch.
Hungrydog

Get a dog.
Tavascarow

Sign of over watering.
This time of year you will probably only need to water once a week.
