lycoperdon molle ,worth eating ?

rogers says edible but there are plenty edible and not worth it if there are alternatives .
are they rare cos my first find .
i can go back for them if they are tasty
doctoral

I've never tried them, but if they are anything like the l. pyriforme, they will be a bit bland. Try dipping in egg and then breadcrumbs and deep fry. Eat with soy sauce and trust Roger as far as you can throw him. Laughing

Sad I see you only got one reply on this thread. Lycoperdon Molle are found all over North America, especially in places like Vermont & New york State in coniferous forests. They are not as frequent in Europe. An ID depends on the spore print, as they may easily be mistaken for l. pyriforme, which are quite frequent here, as are l. perlatum - all are edible, but my favourite is l. perlatum, which deep frys in batter beautifully - I usually dip them in soy sauce with a little wasabi paste added.

Yeah, but I like that kind of stuff - I even eat sushi and sashimi. Other favourites are garlic, strong onions, mustard and plain ole roast beef with loads of horseradish (which grows wild - or feral - around here).

I was thinking more along the lines of a floating alien brain.

But that's just me Wink Laughing Pass the magic mushrooms, maaann...

Yeah I love wasabi, sushi and sashimi. There's not a lot I don't like really, apart from kidney.

The floating brain idea is good - I am gradually getting used to the Avatar - psilocybe crobulus all over again - they are supposed to be about 5 times as 'magic' as the liberty caps, maaan ... oh God, I need to fly again ... angel12 Very Happy

Even kidney can be good - small amounts with lots of other flavours go well with the boletes - trust me I'm a brain surgeon - now where did that deja-vu feeling come from ... Confused
