Macho curries

Anyone else like them eye wateringly hot?

I have managed to lose a child for the weekend, which gives me an excuse for a killer vindaloo Cool
sally_in_wales

ooh yes, I must confess to a liking for dangerous food. Like it mild and creamy too, but hot has a very special place and someties just has to be done Very Happy

Laughing I never need to look, just to listen for the constant squawking Very Happy very quiet here today!
Bugs

Hmm, we have a similar thing with chickens. You don't even have to listen, just go in to the kitchen and slice some bread, or clink a plate, and they come running. I imagine that's not too dissimilar with children Laughing

Not big on "macho curries" but then I'm not very macho. TD can take more heat than me but I like lots of garlic and other flavours, plus some heat, and I love having a variety of foods to pick from - vegetarian thalis are the only thing I miss from takeaways, really, I can't be bothered to make more than two dishes at one go. I wish we knew more people who can/do (more the latter, really) as it would make sense to have dinners where each brings a dish or two to heat up and share around.

I think we might be having nettle aloo this weekend though Laughing

I like garlic too, we have a thing here, snowballs away and it's a garlic fest, munchkins away and out come the chilli's Very Happy

I am in to making a lot of dishes at once, I like that kind of "catering" experience, juggling lots of things at once.

My big fault though is I like to play with dishes to get them "right", so I often feed the family some of the same dishes 2 or even 3 days running Laughing

Today will probably be only rice, vidaloo and kashmiri spinach.

No, I am a big girl's blouse when it comes to chili. I'm off to light the barbecue in a minute, hurrah. Very Happy Steak, merguez, garlic mushrooms etc. Sorted.

I'll tell you what is funny Laughing I just had a call and she is coming home after all, so she will be delighted with dinner Embarassed

They have to be the right heat. Today's Hot Thai Special from the Wrestlers at lunchtime was really quite hot. Lets just say I'll expect to know when it when it's on it's way out...

Samba I like hot, but korma must be creamy and mild with chilli flavour not heat, IYKWIM.

This one was a killer Very Happy Too damn hot by sane culinary standards, but a very nice change. Even I had to take a drink of water with this one though.

Thought water was meant to be no good, don't you need milk or yoghurt or summat?

Something with fat is better, but at least with water you are replacing the sweat Wink

Charming image. Rolling Eyes

Nope - if you enjoy them, I'm glad, but we try hotter than we'd like (as cold cures!) and found them similar taste, just hotter, no extra flavour, just slightly uncomfortable

mind you, some people say that about the way my lemon curdmakes your tongue tingle. Laughing

Wouldn't it be dull if we were all the same!
Jonnyboy

I have to admit to loving a good hot curry. there's nothing like getting the sweats.

I personally think that chilli is addictive.

I must admit i can't make much sense of it myself Rolling Eyes It was pure fire rather than flavour, but I really fancy another all the same Laughing But then food I suppose is a multi layered experience of smell, taste and texture.
Bernie66

and they always taste better if you have some left over for day two-don't know why but its a fact-chilli and curry-hot chilli or madras/vindaloo
Unexplicable but true

The hotter the better!

I think the only caveat is the balance has to be there as well. This one was well balanced as well as very hot.

But we once had a takeway which are usually very good round here, but in this case they seemed to have simply thrown more chillies into everything, so there was no "character" to the heat Twisted Evil
bagpuss

I personally prefer medium as too hot and I just don't taste anything else

one thing which irriates me at times especially in restaurants if they put in too much cayenne and a chillis heat never seems to burn quite so much

a tip I from from nigel slater is if you use a bit of fresh chilli and a bit of dried chilli you can get a slightly more spicy but much rounder heat which is good but that reminds me of the lovely lemon mint and chilli chicken dish he has which is lovely

I think it is - I work in a deli which does lots of grilled paninis etc I usually try to be good and have a salad for lunch but for the past 2 weeks i've been having jarlsberg and jalapino and basil paninis for lunch. Initially it was to clear a cold but now I have a habit!
tahir

I can eat as hot as you like, when it's chilli season I usually have a couple with my cheese salad sarnie but most of the time I go medium hot on my cooking.
SparklyWellies

Embarassed Ahem. My husband cooks curry every Saturday evening for me and uses Embarassed at least 24 birds eye chillies in mine. He however gets an attack of hiccups with 2 dried flakes. Laughing

No wonder your wellies are sparkly, must be all the sweat dripping on 'em
Gertie

I love chilli peppers!!!!!

Lundy has an asbestos gob - when I make extra spicy lentil soup he adds extra chillies to his soup and then has seconds. Even eating my own version burns at, er, both ends Embarassed (Sorry!!)

I'm sure he is going to b*gger up his tastebuds!
