MangalitzasIf anyone wants a woolly pig for meat, or as a pet, I've heard of someone who's got gilts and castrated boars going very cheaply. (Accident with a boar getting in with his mum and two sisters...). Around 7 months old.

MangalitzasIs this the woman at the show?
Are the ones for sale registered and how much?
|
Nick

No.
No.
Much cheapness.

chris, you won't be popular with the guys at the abattoir if you turn up with one of those!

Mine didn't bat an eyelid.

Definatley not my cup of tea! Just curious.
Not any use to me, but would maybe be ok for sausages or hams!
Saw some this year and the sows look fresh from the 1800's!

Should be about ready to kill at 7 months. My slaughter house would disown me & I am not going to scrape one at home.

Can I show my ignorance and ask whats wrong with them, as in why don't the abbotoirs like them?

To hairy so much harder to scrape cleanly.

I remember at a show this year a few of us where having a chat, a mangalitza walked past and one bloke said out loud "christ what the **** is that, one of the mongalitzas?"
Lead to lots of laughter!

Why do they need to be scraped?

Cos you don't want hair all over your crackling.

These are a woolly pig. You can shear them and use the wool.
Very, very tasty, tho.

Did you remember to save the wool for her?

Naw, she'll never read this, so she won't know what she's missing. I'm quite safe,

Is that a cross between a pig, a sheep and a knagaroo?

Sounds like a perfect description of a mangalitza.

The first two I can see but I'm having trouble with a jumping Mangalitza... Thinking of the craters it would cause on landing...
