market research

... or yarn porn as someone so eloquently put it!!!

I have been busy and now need some feedback please.
I have loaded photos of 11 colourways of yarn onto my blog (too many to put here).
If you aren't too busy, please would you visit and vote for your top three and the one you like least. These are 4 ply sock yarns but the yarn could also be used for mittens, hats, gloves, even baby clothes.
Even if you aren't a knitter, I'd still be interested in as much feedback as possible.

Also, as I haven't started properly yet, I am considering other names. The dropped spindle was chosen because it's a spinners joke when I was thinking more about spinning. Given that I am now dyeing, I need something memorable. Does the dropped spindle fit the bill? Forget that you have heard it already. I am considering others. I need something which will be easily remembered so that if a knitter sees someone using the yarn and asks where it came from, the user will be able to say, without hesitation, it's from xxxx.

Sadly Squat Orange is taken!!!

Some one suggested Yarn Storming
My OH came up with Woolly Haggis

All ideas gratefully accepted.

Thanks n

Are you seeing little boxes with an x in the corner, or nothing at all?
I have named them now for ease.
If they aren't there, try right clicking on empty box to open the link.
Sorry.

Coming up with the name "Squat Orange" was a matter of a glass of wine, a piece of paper and lots of random words scattered on it. As soon as I'd written it, it was just right!

It'd make a great name for a knitters pub.
sally_in_wales

I think you are already starting to dveelop an 'identity' as the Dropped Spindle, so why change what already works well Smile I think its a classic name that appeals across a wide variety of knitters

Thank you to everyone who has voted. There are lots of you now and the results are very interesting. I really appreciate the help, I obviously have my own favourites, but it's difficult to know which ones customers will like.
The next stage of the research starts tomorrow, more dyeing and LOTS of knitting, so I will be back for more opinions and votes when that's done.
I know that the yarns I have already sold are pretty when knitted up, so this is now fine tuning.
If there is a colour you have been hunting for and can't find, please let me know that too, either here or on the blog... if you don't ask, you don't get, as someone once said. There has been a request for more masculine colours, so that's in the pipeline. And if you are having a Dulux type moment, tell me about that too. I'm not going to suggest anyone sends me their favourite shirt to match, but a Dulux type chart would be fine!

Oh and I'm beginning to think I'll stick with the dropped spindle. It is starting to have an identity of it's own, you are right. But thank you all for the suggestions, once again I really appreciate the help.

Put them on ebay, and see who bites. If you say that you are willing to consider comissions in colours of your buyers choice, and either put a website or email address, I'm sure lots of people will contact you to ask if you can do x without y, or colours b and c. I've bought quite a lot of yarn that way.

Of course you have put a thingy in that says its not an offer to sell off ebay, just a suggestion for other yarns you could list (and then of course you will sell off ebay, but I don't think you'll bankrupt them!)

I thought they were really pretty, and all sellable, but you never know wht peoppple will buy until you try and sell it to them, so just start with small quanities. You'll soon get a feel for what sells and be an internation yarn star!
