Maybe chickens aren't that thick after allI always assumed that chickens weren't exactly the Einsteins of the avarian world but at least ours seem to have common sense. Last night after all that rain I went to lock them up and found that the trap had dropped so they couldn't get into the coop. I searched the garden and couldn't find them anywhere and then had a thought. When I am doing my turning they like to wander in and scratch around in the sawdust and so I went and had a look in my workshop and sure enough they had all gone to roost in there.
Only problem was this morning I found out just how mucgh the things poop during the night.....

Well, they were able to survive without people locking them up at night in a jungle for thousands of years - eating, drinking, breeding and finding shelter from bad weather are pretty basic survival techniques

I know that Just that when man gets his sticky little paws he has a tendency to breed anything that isn't of use to him out of them. Nice to know he failed in some things

I dunno - last yer we built a new hen house about 10 ft away from the old one, so they had two for a couple of days, then we took the old one down. That even I found them all standing on the square the old one had left.
I'd swear they were muttering that it was a bit draftier than usual...
and we had to carry them into the new house one by one..

I definitely think that there is a chicken scale of brightness. Sounds like two examples from opposite ends of the scale
