Microwaves and cakesIs it possible to bake cakes that taste good in a microwave? I want to make small and mini cupcakes/fairycakes. I have no recipe and no idea if this would work. As I can't/don't bake cakes in a normal oven, I have no recipes or experience to adapt to microwave cooking. 
But if Downsizer can't answer a question on cakes, I'm not sure if anyone can!

I did have a microwave mug cake recipe waved at me last week, even think I posted it here somehwere but we suspect it needs modifications (offhand the oil quantities looked off for example) |

It does work with an ordinary Victoria sponge recipe.
But as the microwave does not colour the cake, I only do chocolate ones. Vanilla look pale and revolting..... and I use at least 2 cake cases as they don't stay upright and just spread. Microwave sponge pud in a small earthenware basin, with fruit in the bottom and lots of custard, can be made and eaten within 15 mins and is the supreme comfort food on cold wet evenings. A one egg mix just about keeps us both happy ! |
