Mooncup - I want to love it but....it really is very hard to remove. I did a search and read back old threads on here and I've read their website but I can't find quite what I'm looking for.
Right
Sorry, TMI. So, releasing the suction if fine. It's after that I hit difficulty. So, you have hold of the bottom, but I just find it really akward as I then need to scrunch it higher up to reduce the diameter in order to remove it fully. Which is Er, am I missing something with this part. It's too wide to yank wholesale, yes?
Maybe I'm just clumsy or really cack handed but I'm struggling. Apart from that I like it. It's very novel to not carry anything disposable round.

No rules as far as I can see except release the suction and take it out in whichever way suits you so long as it's gentle (and doesn't spill). And persist as it just becomes second nature and none of those drying out nasty tampons.

Try *ahem* "bearing down" as you remove it

I find concentrating on really relaxing and pull the stem slowly.

I find I need to get hold of the cup too, rather than just the stem. But relaxing everything seems to be the key. It can be a bit messy sometimes, but mostly it is OK.

I would agree with the others- I cut the stem off mine so have to pinch the base of the cup slightly. I only start to pull once I know the suction is released. It's a bit of a balancing act getting it out but keeping it upright.
I only started using this about 6 months ago and I am totally converted, however I tend to use it only at night time and use washables during the day. What imressed me most is the fact that it NEVER leaks. I wished I'd discovered it years ago!
I would say it took about 3 mths before I was totally happy with the whole insertion/removal thing. OH is totally grossed out by it.

I was a bit squicked out by the whole process when I first got mine, but I found that taking it out in the shower helped as I was less worried about the, erm, potential for mess.

I've been using mooncup for a couple of years and much prefer it to the alternatives.
I had one mishap once where it slipped out of my fingers as I removed it, dropped to the floor and had a little bounce... my bathroom resembled a scene from Nightmare On Elm Street

I still love mine but must confess to having got out of the habit of using it recently. It's fine for at home use or if I am somewhere I can get to the loo fairly often on the first couple of days of my period. Yes they *do* leak if you have a heavy day and you forget to check every couple of hours. And it's not pretty. Also, cleaning it in a busy pub loo half way through a gig is not ideal, so have resorted back to the dreaded tampons on those occasions. And Mooncups *do* leak overnight on heavy periods too, just as a tampon or towel would.
Where Mooncups come into their own is when the couple of days heaviness has passed, and you would usually use endless tampons/panty liners while your period peters out. You can leave it in 8 hrs at a time and not worry.
Ideal scenario chez Nettie is to use towels overnight in addition to the mooncup for the first couple of nights and tampons for the few hours while at work in the first 2 days, with just mooncup after that. Wish it wasn't so but can't find a way around it at the mo.
Back to the original question - grab the base, not the stem, with finger and thumb, pinch it gently at the sides, release the suction by pulling down and tilting the mooncup forward slightly so that the front edge disengages...then pull down gently. No mess no fuss!
