Mushroom Allsorts

First forage for ages. Found an fine array of shrooms today, including Oysters, Hedgehog Mushrooms, a couple of reasonable Ceps, an Oak Bolete (Boletus appendiculatus) - actual several but only took one - a Red Cracking Bolete, several Larch Boletes (Suillus grevillei), Bovine Bolete (Boletus bovinus), a couple of Scarletina Boletes (Boletus luridiformis), a couple of Amethyst Deceivers, some Orange Birch Boletes & a Humpback Brittlegill (Russula caerulea). Some drying, some going in mushroom soup Very Happy

Nice haul. It's still not been wet enough here for anything significant. I found one unidentified russula and a mini agaricus, that's it for the last fortnight Confused Those amethyst deceivers are huge!!

I thought this thread was going to be about some brave new product Pilsbury had launched Shocked

I got over 2kg of various wild mushrooms over the weekend, including 21 Ceps Smile The interesting thing was that there were lots of small ones coming up too. We haven't had a frost yet, plus there is mild and windy weather on the way. Still plenty of time!

Ohhhhh stop it will you!!!!!

I found things that look like exactly like your chanties yesterday, only they didn't really smell. I've never seen one in real life so can't be sure......

Quite easy with chanterelles... Got a pic?
PeteS

They could be false chanterelles (were they growing with pine?). I have noticed quite a few of these this season. In fact it's the first time I've seen them since 2006. However, as Cab says - get a pic and we'll be able to do an ID.

Are those all edible? - quite a collection!
PeteS

Yes, they area all edible. In that lot are:

A Beefsteak Fungus (Fistulina hepatica)
A Scarletina Bolete (Boletus luridiformis)
Cow Bolete (Suillus bovinus0
Orange Oak Bolete (Leccinum aurantiacum)
Brown Birch Bolete (Leccinum scabrum)
Wood Mushrooms (Agaricus silvicola)
Agaricus silvaticus
Ceps
A few Winter Chanterelles
Chanterelles

I probably missed some out.

One thing that I found this season is how good (at least for me) the Cow Bolete is. All my books say it's horrible so in the past I haven't bothered with it. I guess it is when full size but small (no bigger than a button mushroom) it's really nice - great taste and good texture. And I know places where there are 100's fruiting at the moment.

Yep they were growing with pine. Will take the camera out later.

Crikey Pete - I thought I was doing well, but your haul eclipses mine! BTW, will probably PM you later next week if you are around.

A quick walk with the dog just before lunch today and I found my first winter chanterelles of the season:

There are hundreds coming through but most are too small to pick:

PeteS

Fungi2bwith - I like the last picture.

We've had Winter Chanterelles in patches for over a month - some are now very large - it could be a good season for them.

While out with the dog on Saturday I found my first Wood Blewits of the season.
wipka84

Found a large patch of these on the way into work this morning, seems all the verges are coming to life now the rain has arrived. I only took one, but now cant find my book to help with identification:

It's a Magpie Inkcap.
mihto

Wonderful picture. The magpie ink cap is redlisted here and very seldom seen. You lucky people!

I have given up mushrooming this year. Found so many winter chantarelles that even I had enough. Thank you, Nature, for being so bountyfull!
Stewy

Lots of them in Savanake forest which is not too far from me.

mihto

How beautiful!

I'll make a print of it on our colour computer tomorrow and put it on my office wall. Nice to remember the colourful autumn when the dark winter comes creeping.

What did Shelley say? "If winter comes, can spring be far behind?"
Stewy

I have quite a few pics of them but I'm afraid that one is the best of a bad bunch, I'll keep an eye out and try to get you a better one if I can.

What I would really like is a nice pic of a Porcelain fungus, I have only seen them once and they are indeed beautiful.

nettie

Ooo, we've got Magpie inkcaps here too.

In fact there are shaggy ink caps, shaggy parasols and field shrooms everywhere, all sorts of stuff is out of season, I reckon there's a last ditch attempt going on to spread some spores before winter now that we've had some rain Cool
hedgehogpie

Red listed? That's interesting. We have an abundance of them here.

He does live in a different country though........... Wink

I'm also led to believe that they are not so common in the North of the UK but I stand to be corrected.
ksia

Dead jealous. Went out mushing this morning - not a sausage.

Got lots of chestnuts - but it's not the same!

Love the magpie inkcap.

Thanks. I only have a small compact camera, but I found if the flash is turned off, the timer set, and the camera placed on a cheapo ( £4)mini tripod with bendy legs, you can get reasonable up close pictures. This picture is the same location in Nov 08:

Came across this on the way home, went a different way via the back roads and this was certainly not hard to miss.

Just thought i'd share it.

Lots of horse mushrooms on the roadsides in the new forest today. I picked 10 but there were quite a few more.

PeteS

Today I spotted Parasol Mushrooms, Shaggy Parasol Mushrooms (20+ in one cluster) , Wood Mushrooms, Field Mushrooms and Fairy Rings in huge numbers - these are on their second major flush. For me it's been a great year Smile No sign of a frost too. And by this time last year we'd already had snow!
