Music to get you to work quicker

I usually listen to pre-recorded Radio 4 on the way to work but I'd run out of stuff to listen to this morning so I stuck the mp3 player on shuffle and this is what I drove to work with:

Stranglers - Something Better Change
Nirvana - Come as you are
Eleni mandell - Snake Song
Carter USM - Sherrif Fatman
Alice Cooper - Teenage Lament '74
Ciccone Youth - Into the Groove(y)
Gil Scott Heron - Inner City Blues
Neil Young - Daddy Went Walkin'
Ruts - In A Rut
Pixies - Debaser
Clash - Lost In The Supermarket

Got me to work a lot quicker than Radio 4 Laughing
Bernie66

How about a "music to sit in the M6 carpark to?" Laughing
Dunc

Hot diggety! All but four of those were on a cd my wife made for me a few weeks ago.

Eleni mandell - Snake Song
Alice Cooper - Teenage Lament '74
Ciccone Youth - Into the Groove(y)
Gil Scott Heron - Inner City Blues

Apart from Alice Cooper, I don't know any of the other three.

Amongst others the CD she made me featured
Black Sabbath - Paranoid,
The Alarm - 68 Guns,
The Undertones - When Saturday Comes
Sum 41 - Fat Lip

It makes a change from the election coverage on 5 Live.
tahir

Ciccone Youth's cover of Madonna's Into the Groove is just about the most awesome dirty, loud and downright vicious cover version of anything ever, needs to be listened to at a volume that'll make your ears bleed.

Gil Scott Heron cannot be recommended highly enough, absolute perfection, jazzy, great voice sooo political and he knows too well of what he preaches (currently doing time for possession of heroin, long time junkie)

This is the only really excellent Eleni Mandell song that I've got, she's got a good voice but this is quite raw too (which I like) heard it on Radio London once.

Ahh, my own personal favorite, music to keep a mad welshman happy.

Of course, if you really, really want to get to work quick I recommend Faith No More's From Out of Nowhere
tahir

Must admit that I find myself wishing that I hadn't chucked my Alarmk album now 68 guns was a good rocking number, who are Sum41 never heard of 'em.

Love the Undertones

More 'dirty, loud and downright vicious' than 'My Way'?

A croud of us from Uni were at a 21st surrounded by oldies (younger than I am now), who were somewhat taken aback with our request for Sinatra. They were even more surprised when we all stood up to dance, and were shocked when we pogoed while singing the cover version at the tops of our voices...

What good musical taste you have Tahir. Smile Must get my Ruts' singles out when I get home.

On days when I cycle to work I find something with a strong rhythm helps me get up the hills, so I would suggest Orbital or Underworld.

If you ever see The Ruts Peels Sessions anywhere buy it, absolutely excellent.

Carter USM - thats a blast from the past. Does anyone else remember them attacking Phillip Schofield? I remember snogging a very attractive young man at a Carter gig in my younger days. And Gil Scott Heron, fantastic.

Nirvana definately would have to be in the Downsizer top ten, and may I highly recommend the Killers yet again Very Happy

Leebu recommended them to me, bought the album but really couldn't get into them
Dunc

One of Carter USM were on radio 2 recently (I think it was Jimbob and The day the music died, but could be worng).

Very funny, doing a song about Simon Cowell to the tune of Sheriff fatman...

"Simon Cowell started out in business as a chiropractor.
He was infamous for fifteen minutes, and he appeared on the X-Factor!"

Also Elvis. What can I say. He is king. And Frank Sinatra. They should be enough to teleport you to work let alone drive you there Laughing .

Nothing beats a bit of Frank singing new york new york or my way. Heard my way in the car the other day as I was bombing along the M4 and had it blasting full vol while I did my best rendition along with him. Had a few odd looks and it didn't help me get there any quicker as my car struggles to get over 65 mph these days.

Or how could I forget - TOM JONES !!!!!!!!!!!! I love him!!!!!!!! A bit of Deliah puts me in a good mood for a week. Have a signed photo of him on my wall. Seeing him play the park in Ponty in a month. HURRAH!!!!!

It wasn't worth more than £400 new. Reminds me of that earth quake we had in Walsall, it did £20 worth of damage, nearly wiped out the local economy. The RSPCA had to step in with Blankets just so people didn't freeze to death.

best for shouting out lyrics with the windows down at traffic lights then actually realising there are other people listening to your caterwauling Embarassed awards go to:- drrrrrrum rrrrollllll

Forest; System of a Down

Tainted Love; both Soft Cell and Marilyn Manson

Personal Jesus; Depeche Mode

In the Ghetto; The King (don't steal a gun, don't steal a car you'll try to run but you won't get far, does he listen to his mother NO)

Weeping Song; Nick Cave

MMMMMMM; Crash Test Dummies

Life In A northern Town; Dream Academy

Two Princes; Spin Doctors

Big Yellow Taxi; Joni Mitchell

Iron Horse; Motorhead, in fact anything Motorhead

Bank Robber: the Clash, in fact anything Clash

and the one i'm always singing half cut with the patio doors open

Louise; The Human League

i guess that definately marks me out as a man of a certain age, and yes i do spend most of the time when in my local with my friends of similar age discussing 80's and 80's childrens programs.... oh and i missed off sisters of mercy and caberet voltaire and black flag and throbbing gristle and department s and rancid and green day and the beach boys etc etc

Motorhead+Wendy Williams doing Stand by your man
Motorhead + Girlschool doing Please don't touch
The Lemonheads version of My Name is Luka
Neil Young doing All along the Watchtower

Was that back in 1987 when he did an hour long solo slot and then another hour with the Attractions. Until then I'd never been that keen on him, but that night completely changed my opinion of him. Excellent
sean

Yep. New Order headlined one of the other nights.
tahir

He did a terriffic solo of an Abba number at the Albert Hall around 86ish. I was never into Costello in a big way till I had to have an operation once, I asked my mum to bring my walkman in and the tape she brought with it was Armed Forces on one side and a Gary Numan album on the other. Soon as I left hospital I bought all the albums.
