MuttonWe currently have available some Kerry Hill mutton from 30 month old wethers at a special price, the same as our lambs- £45 per half. Same terms as for lambs. Butchered to order.

Rob: is there any way of getting some of your mutton over here (mid Wales)? Ironically, no-one here seems to grow sheep on to mutton age. How about a weekend break for you in sheep country?!
|
Nick
|
Maybe. What's the timescale you're thinking about? I'm coming past Rob in about 3 weeks, and live not far from Mid-Wales.
|
mochyn
|
Sounds like we could have a possibility here, Nick: 3 weeks would be good for me: we can eat some of what's already in the freezers and make some space! I could then meet you somewhere for a handover...
|
Nick
|
Well, you two work out anything you need to plan. I'll keep you posted on when I'm going to Newcastle.
|
sean
|
Nick, do you came anywhere in North Devon, or even close?
Rob, how much freezer space would I need for a half?
|
Nick
|
Timing is everything. I come to North Petherton often enough, as my parents live there (Just north of Taunton).
I get near enough to Rob's every couple of months.
I'm always happy to deliver/collect when my route/car/timing allows.

Mutton appears just above David Blunkett in view latest posts

The timing's not urgent from my point of view. I'll probably need to eat some stuff from the freezer to make room anyway.

Same thinking here, Sean!
Off to cook an oxtail...

Thanks Nick (It'll be good to see you again), three weeks will work out just right for us, as we have some hoggs going next week so I'll make arrangements for mutton the week after
The mutton, I reckon, will be about 50% bigger than lamb (~15kg per half). A half will take up about two drawers in a standard sized upright freezer.
|
sean
|
I'll discuss it with my better half and get back to you.
|
Nick
|
I'm likely to be flexible about when I visit Rob's area, but by thenI should have a huge chunk of pork filling my freezers, meaning I will be able to store overnight, chilled, but no longer. So, as soon as people have good/bad dates, please let me know, so I can accomodate you.
W/c 28th November is looking most likely. How does that fit with people?

I'll ask on Saturday & check on that week with the butcher.

Don't spose you're coming down south east way? (I hate living in the south east!)
How come you can't courier rob? - I'd gladly pay! Annoyingly, I had a choice of two courses next week, one in west yorkshire, one in Britstol - guess which one I got?
Anyone know a good place to stay in Bristol? Will look for another course up your way (then I get the ex's paid!)
|
Nick

I do visit the south east. Where?
But, with no freezer things, trying to do the SE, Wales and Somerset may be a tad too much.

So do you go direct to Newcastle from York Nick?
We are sooooooooooooooo near!
A meet up?

Bucks, but I could meet you on the M40! It's no bother- bound to be course up there sooner or later! For some reason Yorkshire is very popular for courses (probably everyone else is off to Rob r for their meat!)

I would consider it as I have friends (also customers) in Buckinghamshire & would love to take a trip down but at the minute time is what I am short of- there is a long list of jobs that needed doing in September and really need doing before Christmas If it weren't for these deadlines I'd do it.

Having weighed one of each today, a mutton wether weighs in at 150% of a lamb, so this really is too good a good deal.

ATTENTION SEAN, MOCHYN, WELLINGTON WOMBLE!
None of you have available email addresses, and PMs are a pain to multi-send, so....
Tuesday is slam in the lamb day. I'm aiming to be at Rob's for about noon, and down to Mochyn, then WW, then Sean throughout the afternoon/early evening.
My email is nick@eppendorf.co.uk. Can you please email me there, and give me useful info, like phone number, email address, and your husband's name(1).
Rob, I'll include you for completeness.
(1) No, Sean, I'm not outing you, I mean Mochyn.

Done, Nick. Of course, if you want to meet up earlier in the day I can come over: we were planning to go to the flicke Tuesday evening in Shrewsbury, so it could work out quite well...
Rob: I'm guessing you'd like some money? Tell me how...

By tomorrow evening you guys will be justified in feeling extremely smug
Weighing in at 33lb per half (excluding offal) that's the equivalent of £1-36 per lb or £2-99 per kg

Best clear a bit more space in the freezer then!

Collected my mutton from a man in a pub car-park this evening. Looks fab. I'll be sorting it out for the freezer tomorrow. The spaniel thought all his birthdays had come at once when I walked through the door with a sack of meat.
A big thankyou to RobR for growing it, and Nick for delivering it.

Ditto, ditto and ditto - only in our case it was border collies, and I staggered through the door! My dad is dead chuffed with his early Christmas present!
Thanks Rob, and Nick!

I'd just like to echo those sentiments. The cats thought it was an early Christmas! It's all in the freezer now where they can't get at it It's all for us!
Looking forward to the weekend which is the first chance I'll get to cook any of it.

Heh.
You're all welcome, and at the risk of coming over all slushy, thanks for the various jars, flagons and bottles of stuff. I look forward to all of them!
However, a small confession. In my boot are 4 chops. Unless they fell off my pigs last week, and have skulked there ever since (and turned into lamb) they belong to one of you. If you feel you're missing a hotpot, you should yell at me. I guess the chances of anyone coming to collect them are slim, but you'd be most welcome. I think they must have fallen out of one of the bags when I cornered around York. Or Sheffield. Or Birmingham, Bristol or Taunton.
And I would drive 500 miles....

Rob's hogget is only thing our little girl will eat at the moment.

I seem to have an infinite number of chops, so it can't be me...

Well I didn't have chops, so it isn't me, and my dad had loads and is dead chuffed, so it's unlikely to be him, and if it is eat them and don't tell him!

Nearly all gone now When's the next lot available?

I am pleased that it was appreciated. So that's four halves & only one mutton animal left but there are some 1 year old lambs that could be substituted (late Feb/early March)- still searching for extra Kerry lambs for the year after next mutton.
Right now though there is some equally tasty pork (£5-50 per kg for a side; OFFER: free 'Pig in a Day' DVD with every pig or buy half & get DVD half price (£9)) from Large Black & Middle White porkers (though the former will make good bacon) that have been fed on our home-grown cereals.

I'm driving past Rob next week. Both ways. (6th on the way to Pitlochry, 8th on the way from Pitlochry to Cambridge.)
PM me, as usual.

Rob, did you get a phone message from me? If not, let me know!
What is it with these farmers that means they can't be by the PC, or phone all day?
I blame all day drinking, myself...

Rob,
March 9/10th ish, I'm able to come past you on my way down south. Are you expecting to sell anything that needs delivering then? I hear you've got some pork available....
Oh, and I can confirm half a cow next time it's available, please!
