Errm, well, I've got summer rasps, the guy next to me has autumn ones, and the summer ones still have ripe berries on them and his first autumn ones are nearly ripe.
Often? Dunno. Does happen though.

Doesn't the fruiting time for autumn raspberries have a lot to do with when you mow down the canes?
Mow the whole row for new growth that will bear in autumn, or let some canes live for a second year to get a second earlier harvest.
(Or are yours just messing with your head anyway?)

The old chap on the plot next to me is a most aggressive pruner. Cuts 'em right back. So yes, maybe the raspberries are playing mind games

Yeah, our autumn ones on the plot were known to start producing in July, not many of them, but some!

Last year I was picking from my Autum Bliss canes until the end of Novemer - only 2 or 3 at a time though and rather tasteless, but still nice to have. I planted them in March 2008 and they started fruiting in July. This year I had the first few ripe fruits on 22 June! I cut the canes down in February. Last year they were most prolific in Sept/Oct and, IIRC, tastiest then. I shall be observing more closely this year...
