My poor pup just got bittenNot a good afternoon.
Took Jack (my working cocker spaniel) for his usual afternoon walk down by the river, and on our way back he went to greet a couple of collies, and got bitten
He's 9 months old, and I have just started to let him have a bit more freedom on walks, and this is what happens Very annoyed with myself for letting him get into that situation, however, I do also feel annoyed that the owner allowed her aggressive dog to be running free like that. six of one, half a dozen of the other I guess.
Anyway, took him to vets to make sure he was ok ( due to rather large and nasty gash on his inner rear thigh), and it is only superficial thankfully. He's dosed up with antibiotics, and having a nice sleep now.
Poor pup.

sorry to hear that. I was going to ask you how he gets on with other dogs, I'm looking for a companion for my (good-natured) setter when he first goes for walks (gallops) on the Quantocks. He's not used to running alone.
Dog diplomacy isn't easy is it? Youngsters have to learn how to approach canine strangers with care, puppies tend to be allowed to get away with more than teenagers. I'm sure he'll be fine, but will probably be spooky around collies for a while.

He is very friendly, if a little over exuberant... he is used to dogs and well socialised as we did puppy classes, take him to gun dog training, and both my parents and the in laws have dogs.
I think these collies were a bit of a pack and took umbrage to the young upstart. I think you make a good point about the teenage bit - he's probably got to learn that his hyper behaviour won't be tolerated, and not everyone wants to play!
Be great to take Jack out with your Setter - a dog that might actually be able to out-run him!!!
Are you back most weekends?

yes, almost always, but life's a bit out of the ordinary at the moment - we won't be off for long walks till the apples are picked in and my husband's recovered from his illness.
A day on the Quantocks is always a wonderful part of our Christmas week.

Well good luck with the apple picking, and I wish your husband a speedy recovery.
We'll be back over Christmas, so perhaps we could meet up for a bracing walk at some point then
