mystery brassica attacker! After being informed that rabbits have been seen around the allotments, i went very early (0600) to try and see if i could see the culprits. no rabbits, only a very guilty looking rooster scurrying away!!
the purple sprouting broccolli was shredded. since then he has attacked the kohl rabi, his days are now numbered. i have a special place for him, its beside my two veg this coming sunday if i can catch him. anybody else had this problem?

Yep. They love brassicas and make more damage than a container-load of cabbage white caterpillars.
Rooster and kohl rabi stew - doesn't sound bad

I know they are very fond of brassica, I used to swap the old brassicas with the chicken keepers for the poultry manure on the allotments.

We grow brassicas for our hens although they've not learnt to wait until they are ready for them.

brassica attackeryou could call it rabi rooster but that and give it a bit of a religious feel
mine also love brassicas even more than the goats who i think perhaps find the leaves abit strong tasting......

Oh well, since you ask...does he look nice? Is there any chance he could be someone's escaped beloved pet/stud?
It might be worth a check (if he is you can ask them to replace/pay for the plants), otherwise, it's only a matter of time before he is got by a fox or a dog or a car so as long as you can do it humanely you're as entitled to it as anyone else!

Mind you, that will be the fun part. Them roosters can't half run! Do you have a webcam set up on your lottie, Crackapple? If not, I think you should remedy that straightaway
