Nest boxesMy hubby has been busy making lovely nest boxes for the new henhouse (which he's currently building, but today has been too wet to continue with the main event, so he turned his attention to the nest boxes).
These are "roll-away" boxes, as at least 2 of our hens have started egg-eating - these lovely creations will stop that!! Only problem we have now, is how to fix a golf-ball onto the sloping mesh base - most of our daft hens won't keep laying in the same place if there isn't an "egg" there to start with

I had a cradle like that, with wire mesh on the front

maybe you could slot a golf tee through the mesh!

The base is sloped enough to make sure that the eggs will ALWAYS roll down into the box-end (which is long enough so that the hens can't reach in to peck them!), but not so sloped as to result in omlettes!! There is a thin strip of foam inside the box-end, against the end "wall" to act as a fail-safe in terms of breakages.
I like the Tee idea ... made me smile.
I think we'll either have to buy some plastic eggs to tie in place, or Chris will have to try drilling into a golf ball so he can screw it in place from underneath (using a washer to stop the screw from pulling through the mesh) I can imagine drilling golf balls would be rather tricksy though ...
