New business, talking to suppliersMy partner Natty (otherwise known as Mrs Grim ) wants to start a new business. Some suppliers are quite happy to talk to us and give us an account, others want proof that we are a business. As we have not started trading yet (we only got the quote for the website recently) how do we convince someone that we are a real business?
The business is going to be a mainly online dog boutique (yes, that does mean lots of pink stuff and bling to traumatise/prettify {delete as appropriate} your little dog with ). She has come up with something a little different which we hope will give us something unique in the market though.

What sort of proof are they asking for? It may be enough to send them a letter with your letterhead on.
They need to be careful, as they don't want to jepardise their customers by selling to the public at wholesale rates.

The simple answer is to ask them what proof they want - quite often it's something along the lines of a properly printed business card (not just something you knocked off on a cheap inkjet printer), or proof of a business bank account.

A lot of businesses require references from other businesses before they will set up an account for you. if you are a new business, it can be quite tricky . You need to offer to pay pro forma.
