New carWell someone I know has a son who has got a car for sale, its a but more than i wanted to pay for a "to get me through" car but there is a chance of passing it on in a matter of weeks without loosing any money so should i go for it
It £700 and is a 3.9l H reg range rover Vouge
Now there is no way i want a 4 litre car but it will get me to devon and back with my camping kit next week and a freind of mine REALLY wants a range rover so i could use it for a week then pass it on, what do you think go for it or not???

I saw an L reg cavalier for sale in Ingatestone the other day, do you want me to get the fellas phone number? Dread to think how much juice itt'll take to get to Devon and back in a 3.9l RR

Condition is everything at that sort of price.
There's a Vogue 3.5 on a G plate on Autotrader.co.uk with a new (June) MOT and tax to Nov for £550 (and it has a towbar...)
And a 3.9 from 1991 for £600, MOT'd to Jan... (75 miles from me, near you?)
Thirsty, thirsty devils. And potentially expensive to fix.
Show him the autotrader listing and offer him the 600 -- IF you want/need it.

Hadent looked on auto trader yet , one of the things is i know the guy selling it and he wouldnt do me over, His dad is the residant that i help with the garden at work and he would kill his son if he stitched me up.
Tahir, if you could get me the details that would be good, I am going to try and look at a vectra tomorrow but i am still on the look out
Just got a insurance quote and the cheapest is £350 TFT so thats not to bad, and the petrol to and around devon is split 3 ways so might not be to bad.
I am only planning on keeping it a fortnight then passing it on to a mate who really wants one oh yes there is no tax but i have 11 months that i am recaiming on the old car but its MOT till june next year.

I can think of two points you need to be sure on.
1. It's a range rover, so you may develop an unnatural love of it, which will lead to destitution.
2. If Your mate lets you down then you may have trouble moving it on.

We had one for a while and it was the worst car I have ever owned. Wallowy, gready, and unreliable.
Sorry

yeah im a bit wary of relying on someone else to take it off my hands dispite the offer, if it comes to that i might suggest they buy it and i will borrow it for a week

Tahir you are fantastic, went to see the car today and have left the deposit so i can sort out the insurance before i drive it home, its a N reg 1.7 deisel cavalier, mot last week and taxed to november.
Im going to go back to the garage that has my old cavalier tomorrow and nick everything i can off it for spares for the new one, I need a headlight if they come out as the new one has a crack and the areil i fitted 6 months ago, and the extra spare wheel, and the light clusters and the bulbs and the........................
well the old one is only going to get scrapped so i mightr as well get what i can

What about hiring?
We have an old oil burning four wheels & a board which hasn't exactly let us down ever but if I'm going any distance (Devon, for example) it's much nicer hiring a brand new vehicle that responds when you press the peddles & the fuel savings can even pay for the hire charge!

This is supposed to be a cheap holiday as it was sort of sprung on us, I was asked and found it hard to say no so the extra cost of hiring a car with having to buy one as well when i get back would make it impossable.
Dont forget rob its only half the distance for me to devon that it would be for you.
Anyway i have insurance, tax and the keys it runs fine but i am going to take advantage of Kwik fits offer of a free tyre, brake and oil check in the morningand get the balancing done and tracking as he had 2 new tyres put on for the MOT last week but as he was getting rid of it saved the £40 for tracking and balancing

I was thinking of anyone else with an old car who hadn't thought about hiring before- it's so cheap you can have a brand spanking new one for the same price as the fuel you'd put in the old one (the economics of that one shocked me when I first worked it out).
Half the distance? Have you moved? I've got it down as 4/5 of the distance

that depends if you are mesuring from my MIL, when we came to visit we were staying with her

Anyway, it was a method that works well for me- I think Porlock would have finished our old car off completely The Astra just launched itself up there

Careful, kwik fit use that as a hook to point out what your car needs and offer to fix it there and then. Ignore any warnings about your car being dangerous etc, etc, and get quotes if it genuinely needs work.
