I really do hope that people (especially those running Windows2000) took heed!

From The Register:
"Although vendors differ over the scope of the attack there's general agreement over remedial actions: block traffic on port 445 at least at the internet perimeter, patch systems quickly, apply anti-virus signature updates. Tin-foil hats may not go amiss either."

There's a good boy.
I'm so glad I don't have to do this stuff any more.

Well, you should still do it, but perhaps not with quite the same urgency, (even that Tahir, erm, displayed!)
Apple very recently released their Security Update 2005-007 with fixes for some very common Unix/Linux stuff including
# Apache 2
# AppKit
# CUPS
# Kerberos
# MySQL
# OpenSSL
# ping
# SquirrelMail
# traceroute
# WebKit
# Weblog Server
# X11
which is incorporated in OS X. As well as security fixes for their own Mail and Safari...
BUT - there do seem to be "issues" with this update, and I'd advise holding off installing it for the moment...

I do still do it, what I'm grateful for is not having to do it every time I switch the computer on. An exaggeration, but it felt like that sometimes.
