New gallery systemIn order to help create the mushroom and other galleries I am adding a couple of things to the "Attach file" system.
You can now add an option title and keywords to posts.
The idea is to let us have a very free format system where special galleries can be created picking up on keywords entered either at time of posting or later by the poster or an admin on the main site.
For mushrooms for example keywords might be :
mushroom,woodland,autumn, edible, P:20,C:Destroying Angel
Where an entry of P: lets you say on a scale of 1-100 how common the mushroom is, and a C: entry refers to a variety that you could misidentify this mushroom as.
The problem with a keyword system is that you may need a crib sheet to enter the data, the advantage is that it is totally flexible and we or even anyone else on the site can define a personal gallery in a url:
http://www.downsizer.net/gallery/woodland,mushroom.html
might be an example.
any thoughts?

That leads to a blank page

Because I have not written the system yet!
I thouhgt a few comments might be useful first.

Nice idea.
Will it be possible to go into old posts and edit the image information, such that the pics we have already can be made searchable? Or will there be some kind of back end tool to do that?

any site admin or the original poster will be able to do this.
this is the bit I am working on next.

In that case its a brilliant idea

Right, you should now be able to enter/edit some data if you are logged into the main site.
I guess we need at least a few things tagged to test the next phase anyway!

sounds good

Ok links like:
http://www.downsizer.net/gallery/mushroom.html
should now pick up on keywords to provide quick gallery systems. e.g. for example we could tag images:
virtualshow2006
and have:
http://www.downsizer.net/gallery/virtualshow2006.html

above links don't want to play at the moment, though they work fine on the test site

if i typed in stock (i did )and it showed me stock that is a clever resource

It would be really, really handy if I could click on the pics in foraging section, and from there get to a menu where I could add appropriate key words. In the mean time, I've started going through the gallery and adding appropriate keywords.

Where exactly is this gallery? Am I being really stupid?

Go to the main site front page, and look at the main menu on the right.

I see, dosen't it need more info to be really useful?

Would it be possible for the link to take you to the post or article that the picture is from? For example, I clicked on link on a picture of a sheep posted by Penny and was taken to the general forum page. To be useful, I'd like to be taken to (or at least have a reference to) the actual post.

I think it does. But getting some basics (what the mushroom is, that its a mushroom, what else its called, etc.) is a start. I'll go through and do that in spare minutes.

I'm thinking more of how you'd search it. It's just not what I envisaged.

What did you envisage?

Something more complex, and much more searchable. I know it all depends on Jema's time though, so I won't push it

More search type things are possible.
Been stuck on the links at the moment We use a link mangling system on the site currently which interferes by the seems of it with my own efforts.
I may have to announce one quiet Saturday that the site will be being debugged and somewhat inaccessible.

It'd be better to have italics or underline rather than reverse on hover Jema
|

Hover on what? We are using reverse on links though out the site and forum!

On the back/report buttons. True, looks a bit odd though, sort of comes round from behind the icon. Not a major issue.

A this stage I am much more interested in specifics of functional requirement rather than the cosmetics anyway.

True, haven't had much of a play

Are we talking mushroom or general gallery??

Both I think. Mushroom gallery seems (correct me if I'm wrong Jema) to be a subset of the gallery pre-searched for the word 'mushroom'.

pre-searched in the new keywords field.
The "filter" then narrows on text in the description.

It's just that with Tahir talking about hovering, it would be nice if the mushroom gallery pictures came up with the name of the mushroom as you hovvered - just a thought...

They should probably simply show the title above the image, and the description on hovering.

Theres a bit of a bug.
Go to the mushroom gallery, now that I've been adding footnotes to pics there are four pages. Click on next and you get page 2 of 28, you're back in the main gallery.

Slight delay to fixing this but it is now fixed.
