new pond and garden picsAlmost finished digging the pond, we've put carpet over it - but I'm going to create more levels and ledges. Back isn't feeling so sore anymore : )
Here's a few pics of the pond so far
The pond shape - like a big pear drop sweet - but gonna alter it a bit
mike being handy with the old old digger- really helped running that over the ground so it wasn't too hard to shovel the loose soil out after - I wont touch that digger though, it's got a mind of its own!
Me having a sit down after lotsa digging and laying carpet
Here's a link to more pics from my garden if anyone wants to see

No, the reality is that AS is only 4 inches high. Very sad story about being bitten by a radioactive midget when she was a baby. Or something.
Seriously, that's almost a lake. Very, very impressive.

thank you guys : )) big smiles here !
Can't wait to get the plants for it...
On the edges I will have grass and wildflowers - and wildflowers for the pond too - all native british species - I just met a friends husband, who happens to run a wetland centre nearby, so I will get lots of free plants yay!!

Big? Its massive! And deep...
I know that its an excellent thing that there should be deep parts to the pond (not least for temperature, and hence oxygen, stability.
But don't most plants want to grow in relatively shallow water - 2 ft deep or so - or is the conventional use of a wide shallow terrace merely a Health & Safety thing?
Never mind just the energy - where'd you get all the carpet!

Yeah - that's what I realised - it was too steep - so today I'm going to take off the carpet and make some more ledges so there's variation in depth. And I learnt that dragonflies are very terratorial, and if you just have one big circular , ond dragonfly will guard that, but if you have a lot of little zones around the pond more dragonflies will come and each will guard each little zone - so more dragonflies.
And more zones = more ledges and shelves around the edges. I'm not sure how I'm going to do it, but I'll find away!

lol - yeah it's quite strange sitting in a giant carpeted hole in the ground.
being a hoarder has paid off! Took the carpet out of the lounge earlier this year, and my boyfriend also took the carpet out of a room in his house so we had two room's worth of carpet. plus there was liner on our carpet so that was double the amount which was handy!
